View Full Version : "Little Gunting." Bram?

Due to the new legal climate and growing hysteria over anything with a cutting edge I've been getting more focused on knives with blades of 2.5" or less -- something still missing from the MBC lineup. However it has been pointed out to me that a smaller Gunting concept knife exists. Here is what little I've been told so far:

>"A ladies'/gent's Gunting has been conceived, but only the prophets can fotell the day of its birth. It has been given a name, which can be discerned from this riddle given to us by the prophets: 'Worn everyday, they cover the ten.' Curious eh?"

>"Bram's 'little Gunting' has a blade length of 2.25"

Bram: any more info on the design, concept, capabilities, etc?

We had a concept model at the NY Knife Show..Which I just got home from...
It went over very well..
small warncliff blade, a bit more hooked..plastic handles..nested liners..compression lock...
very light small and fast...
of course indexed but with smaller multi indexed clip
but its in the concept stage..
working plastic models only..it needs to be refined a whole bunch!!! I'm working on it..

Thanks Poppa Spyder for getting my little Gunting along so far..

Sounding good already Bram. Please keep us updated on your progress.

It is about time that there was an FRN MBC folder -- that was actually a question I planned to ask later.

BTW, one request: As you continue to develop the concept would you consider making the scales a subdued colour other than black? Maybe grey (like that limited run of Matriarchs), or O.D., or khaki, etc. (Same reasoning as why Sal went with green on the Temperance handle.)

the Baby Gunting...will not be black..though black is a nice color..green is OK..maybe grey?...
Red is for the DRONE version...

I'm reworking the handle ergonomics right now..and modifying the blade shape..
its going to take awhile to get it right..

but it will be light n fast..and the indexing point will allow one to go from "Gunting" strike, to rotation to kerambit style cutting.....
and back again...

sharp-sharp-sharp is the key word here...

Grey would probably be best -- grey FRN looks pretty good as I recall, and as a neutral colour it seems to keep happy both those who want colour (anything but black) and those who want black (for the tactical/hardcore look).

Bram: considering how many people have petitioned/hassled for a larger Gunting (or at least a longer-bladed one), are you suprised to see people asking for a smaller one?

I can't wait for this version of the Gunting, any idea when it might be out? As for a version larger than the current model, I can't see a use for it. But I could be wrong. I love my Gunting, although I would like to see a left handed version of it and the Chinook as well.

Here is a snippet of more info that Bram let slip today on the little Gunting:

"The Baby GUNTING: the TUSOK..is under development..Those at the New York knife Show saw it..the MILIPOL Show it was a big hit...

its small, will have nested liners, compression lock, FRN handles..2" curved blade, very cool indexing and clip to make it a Spyderco first Kerambit type knife... fast and light..

Kinetic open spinning to reverse and slice 'n dice..how nice.."

Bram, I really enjoy my Gunting! As my regular EDC general utility tool, it works very well; but at times when it's a bit too bulky to carry, like with a suit or running shorts, I carry a small Fred Perrin designed fixed blade hawksbill. I love the utility of the warncliff and hawksbill blades, so for me your new little Gunting sounds perfect! When it is produced, I have a feeling that it's gonna replace all of my knives for EDC :D
