I have been waiting for a month for my meekrat from some online discounter. I agree with the comment re changing color of wire clip. Problem is, "stealth" depends on pants color.
Probably not going to do any color changing to the clip in the near future. Too many other projects ahead of it.
Hi Bell. Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

You might be able to powder coat it.
"Sure you loaned it to your friend and when you got it back the tip was missing."

Another black alternative would be Parkerizing A.K.A. Phosphating; additonally this coating is inherently a very flat black, which would make it stand out even less than other coatings. If you want proof of its duability: they coat US mil-issue (1095 steel btw) machetes using this process.

I am not familiar with the Meercat- what does it look like? I can't seem to find one in the online catalog.

Sharp1, we meet again! Well I would not powdercoat, it chips and peels. I would possibly try black oxide, it's simple and usually inexpensive. There is also Nitride coatings. We use that for our shock shafts and fork legs for dirt bike suspension. It actually reduces friction (very important to suspension components) but may be pricey $$$. It turns the metal gold or sometimes darker depending on what you start with. I assume (not very often though) that the clip is some sort of spring steel. Avoid a plating process that will use any kind of significant heat. There is also Cadium plating, It's usually silver (what nuts, bolts, and fasteners are plated with) and you can get gold. May come in other colors but not sure. Nitriding you usually start with it chromed which is good for you. Our components are Hard Chromed from the git go.

Sharp1, I forgot to tell you why not to expose to heat. Sometimes spring steels will weaken and comprimise clamping force.

Before I read that you addressed covering the edge with metal I was thinking about the contact with pants and hands! The whole perimeter would have to be covered with something. It would just shred your hands!!! It would be trick. A couple layers of med. with uni-directional on top should suffice.
