View Full Version : Locks in new knives

Just looking through the upcoming knives, it seems most of them have traditional locking mechanisms, i.e. I don't remember seeing one new compression lock or ball bearing locking knife. And looking at the Benchmade knives, they seem to have very few new Axis locks coming out too, mainly liner locks. Just wondering why that is? People on the forums seem to really like all three of those locks, maybe they're not as popular with the general public? I'd love to see a new compression lock knife myself (stretch 2, compression ahhhhh.) Oh well, just an observation while passing some time until I can start my next run.

I think you almost need to look again, the Pikal has a slightly modified ball lock, and the superhawk has the precious comp lock :D yummy....
And don't forget about the recently released S which has the comp lock also.
I do understand though, the comp lock and the BB lock both scream spyderco innovation, and I'd love to see them on more knives. Hrm... I'd love to see more small knives with interesting locks--I love confusing people with a new style of lock :D

True, but they're all very unique knives, though the S is high up my list and the Superhawk does look really nice (P'kal looks really cool and I'd love to try the lock, but I've just go no need whatsoever for it.)
What I'd like to see is the new locks on EDC style knives. I've handled both the ball bearing and the compression, and while I don't currently own knives with either of these locks, I really liked them.
