Today at work I noticed that a small gap had appeared between the G10 and the back spacer (lock housing) on my Dodo. Upon inspection I found the screw to be completely stripped. I have never tightened or loosened this screw and have no idea how this could have happened. If I send it back to W&R will they be able to fix this? I am sure if it is only the screw that is stripped, it is just a matter of replacing the screw. I am worried that the female threads are stripped also. If so, can they re-tap the hole or is it a lost cause. Anyone have a similar experience. This is quite disturbing as I love this knife and am not sure I could replace it. I still can't believe I got this knife for $50 on STP.

The knife has been discontinued, but Spyderco may still have parts available for them. Only way to be sure is to contact their Warranty & Repair department and ask. Best way to do that is by phone.

Being that the DODO is a Golden Colorado made Spyder I would say there is a very high probability that they would have plenty of parts for the Sick DODO. Spyderco Repair folks go way out of their way to please. I have nothing but good to say about them.

They replaced a spacer screw on my Dodo recently, so they should be able to help you. It's a fairly generic screw in the line - used in the Paramilitary and others IIRC.

The problem is most likely the screw rather than the back spacer. Remove the stipped out screw and replace with one of the other spacer screws to be sure.

You'll need a T7 Torx driver to do that.

I thought about trying this, but I am a little apprehensive to remove the other screw since the one that was stripped looked like it only had about 1 1/2 threads that had grabbed the backspacer. I don't want to strip the other one as well. I guess I will try it anyway. Should i use loctite when I put the screw back where it belongs?

Thanks for the help.

Ok, I tried a screw from the other side and sure enough, the threads on the screw I removed are looking stripped too! What is going on here? I got the screw I removed to bite back in the hole it came from, but not in the hole of the original stripped screw. Since the threads were not looking so good, I don't think this was a very legitimate test. I don't think I will remove any more screws. I guess I will send it in and hope for the best.
