I love my Para as well. Yours looks like a very used knife and it looks good that way.

Who did the clip on that? The Para seems to be the knife I see most with clip modifications, which I think definately says something for the Para II that it needs a clip redesign. Mine personally has an STR-made Ti low-rider clip.

That's really cool. Did you round the edges of the handle as well? I was lucky enought to use a Caly III for a short while, and the only complaint I had was the edges of the handles need more beveling. Your Para looks super comfortable.

I am loving the beater ParaMilitary I have. My only gripe is the pocket clip. I don't mind the tip-down carry, but the damn sharp edges make it uncomfortable.

Think I am going to play with some sandpaper.

The clip came from a Gerber small money clip knife,
I did it myself with some help from STR on blade forum, Thanks again STR, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=454918

Arnon. Great job. Looks like I gave fair instructions I guess. Its fairly simple really. If you use a #44 drill for the holes or a number 50 and thread them first and then use a 1/8" pivot barrel held with a pair of vice grips you can cut off thin slices of it using a thin cut off disc from Sears or Lowes in the dremmel section. Drill the 1/8" hole just a bit down and recess the already threaded insert and screw in the screw making sure it catches and pulls the insert down tight and repeat.

On FRN and Micarta you can get away with just threading them for 2-56 sizes and use 2-56 screws the way they are and they hold up fairly well actually providing you don't over tweak the screws or glue or loctite them in. Glue them and the first time you back the screw out it will strip everything out.

G10 and Carbon Fiber are not as trustworthy for holding the threads in my experience. I've done it but I always expect it to be less than permanent if the person makes a habit of taking the clip on and off a lot. Leave it and they can last indefinite. This goes for a lot of the plastics. I've got some out there from old early Cold Steel and Spyderco FRN folders and Micarta over ten years old still working just fine.

I'll add this. It seems to me in my own testing that the G10 and Carbon Fiber Spyderco is using is slightly better quality than a lot of the stuff I buy myself from suppliers. I have snapped both to the breaking point and the Spyderco stuff seems to take more strength to break. I can't verify it scientificaly but it seems obvious to me that the Spyderco G10 material is at least 10% if not 25% stronger than what I get sold to use in my knives. They hold threads better also as a result of this. I'd like to know where they get it from to be honest with you.

That is a great clip job. I wish the Para and Mili came with low rider clips like that. SWEEET.

Thanks STR it is fairly simple, the hard part is the fear of messing up your knife, but your clear instructions gave me the confidene to do the job, and I am very happy with the results :D :D
Be well and thanks Arnon :)

You're right on target STR, you clearly know your stuff. Sal has said in the past that their G-10 is custom and uses 30% more glass than usual.

Yeah, Spyderco's G-10 is great. Benchmade's just feels like plain old plastic where Spyderco's feels like...I don't know what, but its great!

arnon,
Good job w/ the mods. I shaped my para's handles w/ a file from a gerber tool to get rid of that picky-bird's head thingy that gets in the way for my medium sized hand. Good job also on the clip and for going to STR for advise. He knows what he's doing.

Thanks dialex
The Para is one of the greatest knives from the factory, and I am not 100% sure that all the mods really improved it. but one thing is for sure this is the knife I trust the most....;) I changed the handles, clip and shorten the blade bit under 3". I know the knife from "in and out". I worked it hard, real hard, and never, NEVER did it let me down!!! From my experience in life trust you have to built ....:) And this knife can do the work hard and well, with only little adjustment and touch on the sharpmaker  And that what makes it perfect for ME...
Be well and thanks Arnon :) :)
