I'm selling my ATR mainly because the serrations didn't really inspire me much. What's the best cutting serrated Spydie? Thanks!

I can't live without serrations personally, I think they are the best introduction to knives since locks :D
But here are a few Spydercos on which I think serrasions really shine:

Cricket - Amazing cutter on the SE
Ladybug \ Jester - Anything this small really benefits from the SE
Dragonfly
Centofante (old ones though)
Native
Salts (you will love SE H1!)
Rescues - Those straight edges work wonders with serrasions.

Happy shopping :p

The fully serrated Endura 4. Strong, sharp serrations to the very tip:cool:

I had very good experience with serrations on full flat grind blades, therefore, my favorites would be either a SE Millie or a SE Police - this in case you can lay your hands on one of those hard to find models in full flat grind and G-10 handles (prefferably blue)
Although smaller, the Lil'T is not one to be put aside too. Those who have one can testify :)

I do not own an ATR, are the serrations on it significantly different than on other Spydercos?

This is one topic that I don't recall us discussing and to my recollection no one has ever addressed it; concerning to 2 distinctively different serration patterns.

What I'm talking about are the different serration patterns that the Golden Colorado Spyders have versus the serration patterns on the Seki City Japan Spyders . AS much as I dearly adore all of the Golden CO made Spyders I have to begrudgingly admit that the Seki City Japan SE Spyders do seem to have a much more aggressive cutting ability.

Plus I like the looks of the more "spiky" serrations on the Seki City Spyders too.

The Serrated Spyders I do currently like the best are:
SE blade on big Dyad
The POLICE model
The Massad Ayoob
The big C-54 Calypso>>> Top those if you can

I think the ZDP-189 SE Delica might qualify, or the Endura; which should be available shortly.

My ATR IS Seki City. IMHO, they're a little shallow

From what I have/used, and it's not that many in SE - it would either be an Endura 3 (mine is CE) or the Rescue 93mm. I just played with an older Navigator in SE and I was pretty surpised at how agressive the serrations were:)

Gotta be either my harpy or tasman. SE seems like a natural pairing for the hawkbill type blade. Just so convenient on pull cuts.

You might try a Harpy, or Tasman Salt. The Atlantic Salt also has pretty agressive serrations. But frankly, I don't think any of them are any deeper than those on the ATR.

So far, my favorite SE blade is the Dodo, but with a very close second is the old Copilot I picked up. Dang those little teeth bite, it makes the cute little copilot seem like a pirahana :D

I prefer longer blades if i'm going with Spyderedges.....so my fave folder is my Pacific Salt and for fixed its the Temperance...

If I'm not mistaken, some types of steels are too prone to chipping when serrations are too pointy. The 440v mili comes to mind. I know it's an older design, but it gives a good example.

I like serrated knives, especially for hard cutting at work. That said, I think my Dodo cuts the best of my serrated knives. Just got a full SE Endura 4 and have been very impressed as well.
As far as aggressive serrations, my SE Lum Chinese has serrations that are much more aggressive than any Spyderco I have ever seen. Super pointy teeth and deep serrations. I don't know why the Lum is different, but it definitely is. I am sure it would cut like none other, but I just don't carry it for work, more of a Sunday knife for me so it only sees lite use.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Ti ATR. The serration pattern on that one is a bit shallower than usual, and we've discussed it a few times before. Most prefer -me included- a more agressive pattern with pointy teeth. IIRC, 2when S30V was first introduced, there were a few reports of people chipping the fine teeth. The teeth on all S30V edges are shallower to allow more material behind the tooth. Makes it a bit stronger. The TI ATR's pattern is -for my tastes- a bit too shallow to be 'real serrations', but it does offer a nice option between 'real' serrations and a PE.

The best teeth in my experience are the VG-10 blades, my R2 has the best teeth in my collection. The Rescue models also sport some really sharp teeth.

Well GarageBOY it has been quite a while since I've owned a Stainless ATR. I didn't like mine from the "get-go" and traded mine about 2 years ago. It totally amazes me how much difference that there is between it and the Golden CO made Titanium version. They truly are 2 completely different knives in spite of the similarity in design

But most Seki City Serrated Spyders are mean cutting machines needless to say. If you could land one of those older 440V fully serrated Military models like the one I traded off here recently you would be amazed at it's super cutting qualities. The user of that model that I had was truly a "viscious cutter" in every sense of the word. Also an SE Endura is nothing to laugh at if you are trying to be economical about it.

However if you could land a serrated C-54 big Calypso you would have one of the all time best serrated Spyders ever. I still deeply regret trading the one I had :(

I think I'm going to go with a SE Endura, since it seems to be a classic, or a Rescue.

My favorite serrated spydie is by FAR my SE pacific salt, which has been a constant companion home and abroad... i'd say it has the most aggressive serrations of any of the spydies i own. it's taken a LOT of abuse, and serrated H1 is miraculous enough that lately it's had me reconsidering whether or not i really "need" a new SE E4 ZDP.

Pacific is the Endura sized one, correct?

Now there are always exceptions to just about every rule. There is one Golden Colorado Spyder that I had and wish I had back. It was a serrated C-50 Centofante II. With the spear point you could get that knife into about every small area cutting chore.

It was also a very controllable cutter as well. It also had the luxury of a locking blade.

Now I almost forgot to mention one out of my GOLDEN OLDIES file. It was the very first Spyderco knife I ever had. The GIN-1 fully serrated Mariner was truly a great blade. Solid as a building foundation and it had a great grip to it for a stainless handle. I really miss the old Mariner :)

I am hoping that the Caly 3 is, cause I have one heading my way.
My Endura is full serrated, and I have been happy with it for 14+ years.
