Is the Chinese folder still targetted for a late September release. I am trying to organize my knife budget and Spyderco has too many goodies available and forthcoming.

Also, any word on Sal's in-house MBC design -- the Temperence and Temperence Jr.?

Thanks.

hi Carlos. Chinese Folder is still scheduled for late SEP delivery. Since we can't deliver everywhere in one day, It will be a steady shipping process. first ordered, first delivered. Collectors will more than likely get theirs first.

Sal's "Temperance" designs (2 folders & one FB) are waiting in line for a production schedule. Probably not before next year.

Thanks for the info. I'll be lying in wait for the Lum. :-)

I guess "Gunting" goes onto the shopping list before "Temperance."

Thanks again.

September eh? I guess I can wait that long ;)
That will be the "medium" size, right ?
Will there be a "large" next year ?

Ferret

Large? Well, hell, just how small (or med) is this soon to be released green beauty?

Carlos

I think that the blade length is 3 1/8 inches.

Chinese folder? Hmmm... I've seen Bob's tanto, pretty piece of work. How does the Chinese folder look like? Will it be priced like the tanto?

Thanks Carlos...I definitely prefer blades around 4" so if there's a larger version Chinese folder in the pipeline I wanna know! (insert smiley)

Ahhh! So that's how the folder looks like! Thanks Tommi, This is definitely a refreshing change from the Tanto! Made my heart pound to hear that it's slotted for a September release! (;

Handle will be(last time I heard) green almite with pattering.
Golden or yellow bamboos or bats(some told that it is a lucy animal in China) on that green background.

sam the man..
07-27-2000, 06:54 AM
Green almite? Hmmm... Sounds interesting. Bat motifs? Aiyaaah! Whatabout Dragon or Tiger? The Chinese are proud to display these as part of their culture... (:

I took a couple of pictures of the Lum-Chinese prototype at the Blade Show.

http://www.chaicutlery.com/BladeShow2000/Spyderco-LumChinese.jpg

http://www.chaicutlery.com/BladeShow2000/Spyderco-LumChinese-clipside.jpg

Green Almite, liner lock, clip holes drilled for tip up or tip down (my preference in a liner lock) carry, and, at least on the prototype, no bat.

I was hoping for the bat. :)

IIRC Sal said that there were problems getting the bat to stick to the Almite :(. I should've sent R&D one of my kid's sticky lollies, stickiest things I know. Only known solvent is child's saliva, and whose going to let a kid suck their knife handle :).

BTW I've been hanging out for the Chinese Folder for over 2 years now, can't believe it's only a couple of months away :D.

Really (<b>Chinese Folder </b> ) I'm surprised (<b>Chinese Folder </b> ) that it (<b>Chinese Folder </b> ) hasn't (<b>Chinese Folder </b> ) cropped up somewhere (<b>Chinese Folder </b> ) in our (<b>Chinese Folder </b> ) conversations. Maybe I'm (<b>Chinese Folder </b> ) not as excited (<b>Chinese Folder </b> )about it as (<b>Chinese Folder </b> ) I thought I (<b>Chinese Folder </b> ) was.

Anything but the bat! Why stick a bat? I think a laser-etched seal of Lum's Chinese initial would be really awesome on the blade. If I ever lay my hands on this knife, I'll have a dragon motif engraved on it... <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

sal

The Bat was selected by Bob as it is a good luck symbol, however, no Bat. Couldn't make it stick to the Almite.

Large version will depend on rection to medium size.

Phew! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> No bats! Will it be shipped plain? Have it been fully booked? Guess a large one will do! Mercy for guys who have large hands?

On Bladeforums, Carlos is raising support for a sprint run Chinese folder with a ZDP-189 blade. Handle colour is a point of discussion. O.K lads and lassies, all those in favour raise your hand and say AYE.

Here's another vote for a Sprint Chinese- Color of Almite to be Purple for the Plum Lum action. I'm down for whatever gets planned, especially a ZDP version- laminated like the Caly Jr, but more of a Hamon-wave to the layer would be drop dead gorgeous!

Paul, that Lum from Bob's site is unbelievable!

ZDP and/or Damasteel would be great. I would prefer a smooth handle over G 10 on this one in any colour but black.

Kudos to Carlos for getting this idea up and running. I'm up for any Chinese Folder sprint run in ZDP189 whatever the handle colour. However my preference would be for a burgundy handle.

I carried my gunmetal blue Chinese all day yesterday. The blade is a superb slicer as it is and would be awesome in ZDP189.

Wait a minute Hardkiss, its not for sure at all. What is for sure is that if there would be a sprint run, it will not have the same colour as the earlyer ones. Spyderco does not want to compromise the vallue of knifes allready made. Discussion on BF was going towards Burgundy to keep in line with the ZDP Callypso. OTOH the ZDP Delica will be a darker blue, that could be mighty beautyful on the ZDP Chinese folder too.

OK here it is>>> What other Spyder besides the Bob Lum Chinese and the Salsa did Spyderco make in the Cranberry color?

Also does anyone know how many Blue Bob Lum Chinese folders there were made? I have only seen 2 of the Blue ones in the last 3 years.

I think we may have about 150 knives spoken for. We only need 1050 more people to say "sure, I want one or two or three!!" :D
Email your friends, family and enemies, let them know there is a slight chance of a sprint run Chinese Folder for 2006. :)
Don't delay, email today!
Don't forget to go over to the Spydie forum on www.Bladeforums.com and post what color handle you want.

it is really funny , on bladeforums whe are like Japanese coworkers standing in line to vote, while here a enormous debate errupts why we should have this or that feature on the knife, people yelling at each other, calling them names, etc.(remeber the forumknife)

In bladeformum it's just

-plum
- ATS34-ZDP

:D

Seems that because we feel confortable here we are more louder! :D

I'm sure I would buy it in any color, except for rainbow, purple, or pink.

I really want to have a Chinese folder. They still have a SE on NGK..I've been debating whether to buy it or not. I kinda want plain edge. I love the green handle that the old one had..hopefully this one will be just as cool.

Pwease Spyderco, pwease
