View Full Version : A few ideas for sprint runs!

Had a brief moment of inspiration today, doesn't happen very often so I thought I'd better write it down!

1. A Lum Chinese folder (VG10 or ZDP) with Carbon fibre scales (rough like those on the BG42 Military). I lough the Chinese folder but I do find the Almite a little slippery and the almite is too easily damaged to make it an EDC, for me anyway.

2. A Little Temp PE with H1 steel, this would make an absolutely superb work knife, I carry an S30V version anyway but daren't take it near the water or use it for messy tasks like gralloching deer.

How about it Sal?

How about a G10, S30V or ZDP Ayoob w/a wave!!!!

I was just thinking about how cool a SE H1 dragonfly would be. Yes, I know that the blade would need to be hollow ground, but I would get one, especially if it could be had with the yellow handle :D (I would even prefer that it keeps the integral clip) Maybe it could be called something like "Carribean Salt"? It would be the perfect beach knife.

Well, maybe that isn't a sprint run.

BTW, isn't there a ZDP chinese folder sprint run that isn't far from being released?
And Yes, I would love a Lil'T in about any flavor. I haven't had a chance to taste this knife yet.

I like the idea of different scales for the Lum, but I'd prefer to see some sort of Micarta rather than CF.

Hi Andy,

Not likely on the Lum.. Bob has signed with another company that requires exclusivity. There won't be any more Spyderco Lum's.

Li' Temps have to be full flat grind (designers requirement). H1 must be hollow ground, so you are not likely to see a lil' temp in H1

The black almite ZDP Chinese is still a go?

Sprint run a Military frame lock with G10 or Carbon fiber overscales and a blade of either BG42 or ZDP189 or better yet a stainless 13C26/154CM damascus blade.

Sal (or cobrajoe), could you elaborate on this requirement?

Well, I would love to. The problem is that I don't know :o, I just remember Sal saying it in some other thread.

However, I am curious too.

Yes, we began that project before we'd heard. Should be out soon. only 1200 pcs though.

Padawan,

H1 is a work hardened steel. that means that it "changes" while it is being formed, ground, polished, sharpened, etc. Flat grinding is done one side at a time. Grinding the first side "changes" the blade making it very difficult to grind the other side. Hollow grinding grinds both sides of the blade at the same time so the "changing" occurs at the same time on both sides.

make sense?

I have the best idea of all, Sal. This will make everyone happy. Make whatever each person wants on a case by case basis.

Completely. Thanks, Sal. Is flat grinding the only kind that causes an issue, or conversely, is hollow grinding indeed the sole option with H1?

Flat grinding and hollow grinding are the most common types of grinds done by CNC grinding machines on knives and shears. At this time, hollow grinding is the only option for H1.

So the new H1 chopper is going to be hollow ground?

Sounds good. I was just curious and hoping to further my knowledge/understanding. Thanks again. :)
