View Full Version : Collecting other stuff...
Do you collect things other than knives?
Do you even consider yourself a knife collector?
as a hobby I began looking into wrist watches,
and I got a few decent ones, then I thought,
how many do I need? I don't even really need it
since I carry my cellphone...
so then I thought of something more practical.
And I just began to get interested in knives.
I see myself as a folding knife enthusiast.
I still buy comics once in a blue moon,
and the only other thing I'm into I guess is
Transformers...
and yes I am over 30 :D

Strange, I was planning on starting a thread like this...
I got a collection started of guns, knives, and even cars. Yes, cars. I have two now ;)
I have two WWII era bolt action rifles, a Swiss made carbine and a Russian carbine.
As for my cars, I have a 96 Crown Victoria PI, and a 77 Mercury Cougar XR7

Well, I guess I could call myself a knife "collector" being as there's more knives in my care than can be used in a day

I also collect gadgets of different sorts, but mostly of the outdoors functional type. Maybe it's time to resurrect my old gadget thread and throw a few on to see if anybody bites...
But the collection I have that takes up the greatest volume of my space is: BACKPACKS.
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/2710/dsc03973fs9.jpg
Some are packs I've had forever, others were bought at prodeal or "clinic-deal" prices, some even for FREE at outdoor retail training seminars. Hell, I'd wake up at 3am just to be among the first 50 in line because the first 50 always got a free backpack!
Yes, there's more to it than collecting so far as all this stuff goes, but I'm not very mentally articulate at the moment...

I collect guns more than anything pretty much anything and everything that shoots using smokeless powder but lately ive been offing my centerfire rifles in favor of handguns and shotguns and offing my newer guns in favor of the classics like model 12's and A-5's

i guess you could say i "collect" guitars and effects pedals, although it's less collecting than acquiring a wide range of sounds and sound-sources to process for specific tones i want...
probably have 50-60 pedals. i'm big on tweaking things to get the sounds i want, so i've never felt the urge to splurge on "expensive" guitars. the early/mid 90s are to me what the 60s and 70s are to others, so i never felt the need to get into "vintage" instruments, either. i'm pretty rough on them anyway... settled on rondo music's line of guitars a while ago (www.rondomusic.com)... they manage to make the cheapest, best built, best sounding instruments i've ever come across. the combination of quality and price still floors me, even after being "used" to it for a few years now...
remembering off the top of my head, i've got...:
-- 95 fender jazzmaster, MIJ
-- 97 fender strat, MIM
-- 99 epiphone dot
-- rondo les paul jr. knockoff (the big single coil pickups)
-- rondo guitar that's basically a melted-looking jazzmaster (again, with the big single coils)
-- 95 yamaha RX (two humbuckers, one single coil)
-- 80s vester "super strat" in metallic pink (an incredible instrument!)
-- early 90s bently accoustic
-- mid-90s fender p-bass
-- rondo copy of a fender jazz bass (which sounds, feels, looks, plays better!!)
-- kay baritone ukelele
-- old pre-WWI "banjolin"
i'd like to add something telecaster-like and rickenbacker-like to the arsenal eventually...

I don't consider myself a collector of anything as I use all of my knives (including customs) and frequently cull the herd. I do have a huge LP and CD "collection" buying on average 6-10 a month, but I never buy something for it's rarity. That point alone keeps me collector free.;)
Cheers,
Rob

Fond Memories: T-Rex Megatron is one of favorite molds of all time, - inspite of the suspect color scheme.
yeah 90% of my stuff are minicons
In the end, those things overwhelmed me by sheer numbers. although im buying at least one of every new mold these days, i'm trying to avoid minicons like the plague.

I used to collect Zippo's(got about 12 of them)
As for knives, I don't see myself as a collector because I use all of my knives. I guess I have about 40 Spydies right now, all bought on the ever going journey to find "The One"
Collecting fat around my waist goes rather fast lately:eek: :o :D

I collect toys, comic trade paperbacks, DVDs, music, Foetus Vinyl, knives, and just about anything else I come across that I like. You could even say I collect boots and lip-service clothes. The toys though I would classify as my main other collection other than knives. I don't buy that much these days, usually around 1 figure every few months, but I still collect them and probably always will. The only thing that has changed is now I prefer high quality over quantity. Coming out soon are a new Guyver figure from Max Factory and Masterpiece Megatron from Takara. Both will cost around the same as a higher end Spyder. For those who haven't seen my various collection photos before you can view pretty much everything I have in the way of knives and toys at my website dedguy.net. I think I need to organize the photos as now they're a nightmare to click through.

Hiya, Dete!!
Yes, I collect other things, too. I am trying to limit myself to just knives and comics!! I have a subscription through my local shop and pick them up every couple of weeks. I also pick up the occasional Hot Wheels cars...:p
I try to tell myself that there isn't anything out there to collect other than knives and comics and Hot Wheels....so far it's working...although I've taken an interest in flashlights lately....uh oh!!!

I guess you could say I also like collecting dvd's. I have all the Platinum Edition Disney movies on dvd to date. I try to focus on limited edition and special packaging as these are usually pretty rare.

The ones in the wood display case are all sealed and will stay that way but most of the one's on the three racks are open for your viewing pleasure. :D
BTW, does anybody recognize the little Homestar Runner figurines on the shelf in the second pic?

Since i obviously don't have very many Spydies - who here has the most TFs? I'm just short of 400.

Essentially just a black wash. When I did that and showed it to peeps on the Spawn toy forums it made a lot of peopel angry for some reason.

I'm not really a collector, but I would like to be one.;) Just not enough money to collect knives, watches, zippo's, cd's. Can't have it al, so I only buy few knives a year.

ya I know the feeling, I try to stay away from those
surefire flashlights by telling myself that technology is always
improving and better ones are comming out.
I have quite a large Star Wars collection. I dont collect anymore but I still have all of it. And a small Spawn collection. Oh and a few boxes of comicbooks:D

Although it is on a similiar vein to knives, I started collecting swords some time ago... I have seven good ones, and about a dozen pieces of crap that are quite aesthetically pleasing.
