I'm not sure if I'm going to get one or not, but I've been looking at the Kopa's lately as I think they're some really nice looking knives. So in case I do decide to take the plunge, what variation is people's favourite? I've never seen them live (no good knife shop around here) but looking at the photos the Gold is probably my favourite (though out of my price range), but I've seen some good prices on the Cocobolo, tiger coral and apple coral, all of which look nice. Anyone got any preferences?

Hi Roger,
I have six of them and all of them are beautiful. My favorite is Gold, with Apple Coral and Cocobolo very close second, than Evrina, Tiger Coral, and Micarta. What is strange that I like micarta very much on the other knives, like Persian and Viele2.
Out of all handle material probably the most durable is micarta, than cocobolo. I am not sure how durable corals are. Wouter can tell you, IIRC he EDC Apple Coral for awhile. Kopas are great knives.
Good luck

Hi Rogcohen - While deciding which one you like best, you should keep in mind that the Kopa series is limited to only 600 pieces world wide. They are sold out in a heartbeat, even before they are produced, and after they have been delivered they evaporate very quickly.
Best advise is to get in touch with your dealer and have him order in advance.
The three 2007 variations are: C92BQ black quince, C92 APS abalone pearl stripes and C92 JB jigged bone.
Make up your mind quick before they are gone...
Jurphaas :)

Rogcohen,
My favorite Kopa is definitely Turquoise followed by Gold Pearl. What separates these two from the pack is the fact that both completely change their appearance based on a source and intensity of light. Unfortunately both are the most expensive ones… The #3 on my list is Cocobolo.
Here is my favorite couple:

… and the rest of the family with exception of Black Micarta.
You can decide for yourself…

Thanks everyone, looking again at the photos I have to say the gold looks superb, but that one probably is out of my price range. I'm trying to budget this year for a forum knife, a kopa, the H1 utility knife, and probably a CF stretch and possibly a ZDP Lum (why are there so many!??) and that's my pared down want list

The cocobolo and coral one's do look nice though, and I really like the overall design of the Kopa, looks like a great gents knife.

Roger,

My preference is always the last one Kopa I get :D (actual the Kopa turquoise, not shown on my 'Kopa Tree').

Please decide by your own -

I like my Turqois kopa best, closely followed by the Tiger Coral Kopa.

Hi,

I've got 5 of the Kopas. Just short at the moment of the Gold Pearl, and Turqouise...saving up to grab those when I can. It's hard to source blades in Australia without a massive wait (they always seem to be on backorder  )

Of the ones I have (Cocobolo, Evrina, Black Micarta, Tiger Coral, Apple Coral), my favourite would be the Tiger Coral purely because of its figuring and the contrasting colours in them really give it some character. Although the pics above show much better quality/ figuring in the Cocobolo and Apple Coral than mine own ones. Most of these being natural materials will, of course, display differing characteristics in their inlays. So it's luck sometimes that you get a really nice slab of material, unless you can see first hand before you buy the thing.

IMHO, the Kopa is a very nice gents knife, limited edition makes it more desirable, but possibly not as affordable. Their unique inlays are very nice, the fit and finish is beyond reproach and more that can be expected even from Spyderco's own high standards.

Turqouise and Gold look to be excellent materials and will most likely be my faves once I grab them :p

(BTW: Peter.... love the Kopa tree - when hungry for a Kopa --> goto Kopa tree to pluck the fruit of the day !!! :D )

Those are some beautiful pics.

I was wondering how one would look in something like black marble. It's not something you see very often, although I guess it's not quite as exotic as some materilas. I'm sure I'd love the cool heft that marble would give though.

I have all the Kopas and if they did not have clips the one which would find its way into my pocket most often would be the cocobolo.

Hey Paul,

Don't you mean if they didn't have a clip and a Boye Dent ;) . The Coco is nice and warm isn't it.

Love the Kopas! I only have the Cocobolo, but you really can't go wrong with any of them -- it's a great little gent's knife.

Here's mine before and after I removed the clip"

Oohh, definitely no clip! Also, just saw a photo for the quince kopa which is out now (I think). It looks great and is affordable too, so I'll be keeping that one in mind.
