Sounds like some kinda of fancy opening. I couldn't follow it, too many fancy terms I didn't understand.

I found it funny that 3 out of the first 7 posts were banned...oh make that 4 out of 14.

It is a manner of drawing a waved folder into pakal(pikal) grip. I can't explain it better than Seth Thomas already did on the SDF, really. Basically, you draw you folder into normal reverse grip, then, as you are closing your fist around the knife, it is rotated into pakal - reverse grip edge in.

Make a cardboard mock up of a pikal and play along with the directions. It might make more sense. It is harder to visualize since things are kinda backwards from the regular knife.

thanx for the advise but...

is pikal a type of grip or a type of knife?
man I remember this girl came into the computer lab in college
and she wanted to learn how to do e-mail but she didn't know what
a mouse was... that is how I feel :o

Pikal is a reverse grip where the edge points inward. I haven't looked at the style much, so I can't say more. I believe Doc Snubnose and others can give you more information.

"Pakal" or "pikal" means "to rip" in Phillipino Visayan dialect. It is a manner of using a knife in fight/combat/whatever term you prefer. The knife is held in reverse grip, edge facing in (normal, "European" reverse grip has knife's edge facing out). Stabbing with this grip usually results in deep, long wounds, because of the instictive flinch reaction of the stabbed - as he is trying to withdraw, he is further worsening the wound. Read Don Rearic's site, there is a good article about pakal.
You can sometimes see a term "pakal knife", which should be a knife optimised for using in the pakal grip. For example, Spyderco/Shivworks P'kal is a folder specially made for this style of knife usage.
Ask away, I can serve as a passable substitute until Doc Snubnose arrives :) .
