Greetings you all:)

Last saturday I "traded" my SS ATR/SE with my son's mint Endura /SE in an attempt to find out what EDC I like best; the Mili or the Endura 3.

Upon opening the knife I already missed the sharp click of the lock. It locked up alright, but very timid:eek: . And to close the knife, I had to hardly press the release and the blade could be closed.

It had some side to side play as well, so I gently tapped the pivot(got pretty good at that to say so myself:o ) and the play was gone. I washed and lubed the knife and put it back in my pocket.

Just today, when opening the knife, it still didn't fell good so I decided to test the lock's strength. I made two medium hard spine whacks on my bare heel and to my surprise the blade fell shut. After that only one whack on my bare heel was enough to make the lock fail:eek: . No surprise I scared myself to death. One thing for sure, my son will never get this knife again.(and nobodey else for that matter:( )

One plus point on this is that I know with what knife I will stick for a while: the Military;)

And I thought back locks were the most dependable and durable locks in the business:confused: :(

Well, maybe I just got a bad one(but it scared me to hell though:eek: )

Just wanted to share this with you all;)

Did you found what was the problem? Fatigued spring?

Spydutch, I am sorry that you experienced this lock failure! I am sure the folks at Spyderco would like to take a look at this one......especially when you said the E was in mint condition! Take care and glad no one was hurt! I happen to like the E3's &4's. I would be interested myself in knowing why that occurred. I am finicky about failed items. I do not carry them anymore! This includes guns etc. I will replace the faulty item. Wow we do not hear about lock failure too much in these parts. Give the Golden crew a chance Spydutch and keep us posted!

I've used the heck out of my E3's without trouble or problem. I'd be curious to know what went wrong myself. I never developed play with any of mine either despite 18 hour a day carry and use. Joe

spydutch, just a shot in the dark here but the lock wouldn't be clogged with lint by any chance? These symptoms happened to me witha Delica IV once and I missed it at first. The lint was preventing the lock from engaging completely and it acted like yours.

Hi Arend,

Again a bummer for you, seems to me you're not so lucky lately with your knives.
It must be quiet a shock to realize that this also could have happend to your son!
I just gave a Military back to a friend of mine which I cleaned (completley stripped) and sharpend for him.
It's a CE black Military, and the knive performs very well, knowing he's a builder. The coating is still great and also the lockup.
Lets hope your Military serves you as well as my friends one does.

kind regards,

Werner
