I saw a photo of a Meerkat PE, reverse-S, in one of the collection posts here and fell in love with it. The FRN handle with finger indents is very attractive to me. I assume it's out of production (it's not in the current catalog) but is it a knife worth looking for? Any comments would be appreciated.

Yes, the Meerkat is out of production and you will probably be hard pressed to find a dealer that has any. Your best bet may be ebay or BF.
I have 3 varieties of the Meerkat and the reverse S PE is one of my favorites.(The Cricket is also one of my favorite) For me the knife feels like it was made to fit my hand and I really like the low pocket carry (not to mention the trick lock is sooooo cool) Be prepared to accept a little lateral blade play as I think this is inherent in the design. Is it worth searching for? That depends on how much you want one and how much you want to spend.
Good luck in your search, I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you find one.

it's a great knife with great ergos, and the reverse-s meerkat is especially interesting. i bought one at "close out" prices, carried it for a while and loved it, but decided to sell it at a profit for money for newer spydies. your friends will marvel at the trick lock!!!!! a great conversation piece, and a very practical EDC knife...

The MeerKat's Phantom Lock is the coolest thing about the MeerKat....I carry two...PE and SE, just love them for everyday chores....Yes! worth trying to get one for sure!....Doc:D

The reverse S Meerkat offers a unique combination of that blade type and an ergonomic handle in a compact package. The wire clip allows very discreet carry. If those factors appeal to you, then it might be worth searching for one. They are, as has been mentioned, out of production, but are still fairly easy to find on eBay if you are patient. The downsides are the weight and the lock. Compared with other FRN handled Spyderco knives of similar size, the Meerkat is quite heavy. The phantom lock is difficult to clean when the knife accumulates pocket lint.
If you are right handed, the Cricket offers a similar blade in a somewhat less ergonomic but still very useful shaped handle.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have actually looked online for a Meerkat and all the sites (about three) that appear at first to have them, had them marked as out of stock.
I found one on ebay and made a half-hearted bid because it's not the reverse-S -- but did bid and win a very nice Cricket SE, although I would have preferred the PE due to more elegant look. However, I'm sure I'll be happy with it

I just acquired a MeerKat -- drop point, PE, in 440C (US made). It's a great little knife -- feels solid in the hand, and the Phantom Lock is fun and effective. Here's a couple pics.
