I have a question. On the titanium ATR lock bar inside the scale there is a "raised button". I am not sure what else to call it. The button is in the middle of the lock bar. I only have the TI ATR so I am not sure if it is present on the SS versions too. Anyone know the function of this or why its there. Thanks

It sounds to me like what you're describing is the small ball-bearing that provides the detent for the blade when it is closed. That small ball presses against the blade (due to the pressure from the lock), and when the blade is closed, there's a small circular relief that the ball presses into, thus holding the knife shut.

I think the 'button' which you're referring is there to ease the disengagement of the lock bar. If you imagine the lockbar without the 'button' and how difficult it would be to disengage with your thumb this may help. Another well thought out design from :spyder: . BTW, I haver 2 of the Ti models and they are, IMHO, one of the finer knives ever produced in Golden.

I think I may have missed the 'button' you described. My apologies. I had a Ti ATR sitting on my desk when I wrote the first response but didn't notice the 'button' inside the lockbar scale.I had to get a magnifying glass out to get a better look at the 'button' and I cannot imagine what purpose it might serve, unless as an aid when the handle is milled but that is only a poor guess. I'm very interested in the answer from our friends in Golden.

I believe that is a safety device to keep the lock bar from being over sprung to the outside of the knife, and therefore making the lock not engage properly

Thanks for the replies Dan and Mike. It must serve or served a purpose or it would not be there. I think you might be on to something with not allowing the lock bar to travel outside the outer edge of the scale. Maybe someone from Golden will chime in with the answer.

I don't have a Ti ATR, but the SS has a screw on the inside of the lockbar to prevent overtravel.

Exactly. It can be removed if you desire, but I wouldn't recommend it.
