Hello all. It has been a while since I posted on this forum. Just wanted to check things out and see who among us has a toad and how it has done. The reason I ask is that I picked one of these up yesterday at a local gunshop. I bought it to be my left pocket carry knife. I carry a large wood inlaid Sebenza in my right front all by its lonesome but like to have a second smaller blade for those times it might be inappropriate to pull out a 3.5" blade! Been carrying a mini Dyad and really like it but had the urge to change over to something else; hence the toad! So far I really like the toad. It is taking some getting used to in order to open it but I am coming along with it. I really like the blade shape and feel like it might work out really well for many of the tasks I use a knife for.

Anyone with any long term or even short term experience in carrying and using the "toad" please feel free to respond. Thanks.

Well, I have at some point in the last year owned (for some period of time) every "small" blade Spyderco knife (blade length of less than 3 inches).

In general, the small knives with stainless or aluminum scales just don't have the right weight to blade length ratio for me. I don't use the clips at work, so they tend to drop to the bottom of my shirt or pants pockets. The FRN versions work better for me. However, since I don't like FRN too much, I prefer knives with Carbon Fiber scales. Since I can't seem to get my hands on a CF Cricket, my current pocket carry is a William Henry CF Lancet.

In regard to the Toad specifically, I did not find it a very multi-purpose blade shape. Kind of like a box cutter. I would get a Cricket instead. Or look for the upcoming Jester.

Thanks for the reply and insight Scolby. I guess what you said about being a boxcutter is what drew me to the toad in the first place. I work a part time job in the sporting goods at the local Wal-Mart Supercenter and the toad should be just about right for the cutting chores I mainly face. Have to work that part time job to buy knives since the primary job, teaching 7th graders, barely pays the bills!!! Ha..Ha.

The Toad is one of the most solid little pieces that I have ever felt. The only thing I didn't like was how thin the tip got near the end. Try a Mouse too, great knife, thick all the way through.
