View Full Version : what is it
hi all, when looking down into the top of the blade notch of most lockbacks there is a small recessed area at the very bottom. is it to relieve a possible stress point during machining or possibly a place for dirt to go without affecting lock up, ??? thanks, high

If you are looking at what I think you are, the radiused corner at the base of the lock tab of the blade tang, it relieves the stress riser that would be created by a square corner in that location. Much like drilling a hole at the end of a crack will prevent the crack from extending farther, only this is done before it cracks ;) . One on the little details that can make a big difference.

Cool, I was wondering what that little notch was for too. Thanks for the info!
Alot of circular saws that a cut like that between the teeth for the same reason. I forget the terminology but it spreads the force around a greater area rather than putting all the stress on one single angle. Hey its 2AM.. Time to watch adultswim. Bye.
