imagine if you will we lived in a dark futuristic society
where gov. restrictions are extreme,

you can OWN only 1 knife
it must be:

-blade under 4 inches
-no wave or ramp
-no glassbreaker
-must be a folder
-no daggers (dual edges)
-no throwers
-no switchblade
-no assisstant openers
-cannot be made for combat

what knife would be your choice? :)

I rebel and carry whatever I want;)

Hey wait a second, that situation you describe, and those restrictions as well, are already in place for the most part:eek:

To answer your question itself, I'd carry a Balisong. Hey, it's a folder:p That would sufficiently annoy the government I think.

I like your spirit, but let's say if they catch you, they immediately
electrocute your nuts right there, and also take away half your
belongings AND do the same to your immediate family as well.
so let's just say tis not worth it.
And other countries in this dark future is much worse, because you
cannot own any kind of blade period cause they put you to death
immediately.

"cannot be made for combat" - what that means? Like no Yojimbo or P'kal with wave removed? Or does it have to be a sheepsfoot blade?
Endura 4 or Military would be my choice, if they would pass...

no Yoji, or P'kal, nothing that has military/special forces/combat
in the name, no striders, etc.

Wow, this future sucks... :p

My answer is still a Balisong though.;)

I think a revolution is in order though, that future does not sound very appealing.

it out of my current collection, I would probably choose my Lum folding Tonto. However given the scenario I would sell the rest my collection get a spider hole and equipped custom probably along similar lines. On the bright side it is the future so maybe I could get my custom structurally fractured structural diamond folder with a conforming liquid metal handle. Custom designed byetyiuothg-m';klm;l from K-1 space alien knife maker:D the very least ensure spyderco to come up with some rather nice designs that this scenario.

On a darker note I did hear once on the radio a Congressman mentioning something about, a band on "combat knives" or some kind of national registry for such knives similar to gun control. the idea of combat oriented coach could mean anything from the 2 inch lady Hawk on scares me quite a bit. It just adds another to the already large chest of arbitrary nonsense at the hands of police.

Maybe I would grind down the length of the C54 big plain edged Calypso to fit the 4" bellow limit.. But just a couple of MM, not more.

And I would leave the country to a free one, where no limits apply for hand tools ;)

Me too! As long as it has one sharpened edge and switchblade :D

On second thought, I think the sharpened edge would be a danger to my tongue... Switchblade spoon still sounds like fun though.

But for only one knife? I'd take a captain, especially if it was SE inside the curve.

Well, I am federal law enforcement so I could say that I, as a function of my job, would carry anything I wanted and would be exempt. However, if this bleak future was to come to pass, would I still be in the government? The answer is probably not. I have a tendency to speak my mind and, in this instance, that would be political (and maybe actual) suicide. Also, I do believe that if things deteriorated to this level that LEOs would be issued all weaponry and required to leave it at work in a nice, safe, government issued, politically approved locker.

In the future, I would want to carry a 3 inch monomolecular blade, or, alternatively, a vibro-knife. Both of these are typical science fiction solutions to the cut through anything, even solid armor plate, problem. Of course, no one in this future would ever allow one of the unwashed proletariat to handle such a dangerous device, so it is back to square one.

So, I would not carry anything. I would leave the one and only knife that I owned in the kitchen, as it would be of the largest possible size and would be used for food preparation (really you have to be able to own kitchen knives, just not able to carry them. The thread should say you can only own and carry one none kitchen knife). I would continue to train in empty hand techniques and figure that, if I need more than empty hand skills to get myself out of a jam, hopefully my assailants would have brought nice knives and firearms to the confrontation. That way, I could appropriate the weaponry after I have disposed of the nefarious evildoers. :D

interesting! I was thinking though that kitchen knife would be
like a rounded tip scissor or pizza cutter type thing.

so you would carry a lawbreaker's knife after you beat them up,
or not carry at all huh?

Yep, in that dark totalitarian future, everyone not in government service must wear paper garments (cloth could be used to improvise weapons) and live in mylar inflatable tents (no tent poles to stab with). The only knives left are the ones chained down at certain stations in the Soylent Green Processing plant, used only under guard by government forces with the highest security clearances ;) . And of course, you have to eat your Soylent Green with your fingers since a servant once attacked a high government official with a toothpick :D
