Greetings you all:)

As you may know, the Military/SE is my most favourite Spydie.

However for a "go everywhere, do almost everything" knife, my most favourite is the D3/SE.

Because of the large cut out it fits my hands better than the new one.

Since I don't want to be without that Delica, I bought some back ups.

Well, looking at the pic what do you think? Am I set for life?

The top one is my EDC and the rest are NIB(all fully serrated of course;))

I'm 40 now and with my lifestyle (beer and tobacco:o ) I guess I will be lucky if I hit 70:eek:

Just curious:confused:

Hey Arend,

Nice set you have there, I really like the blue one.
Well I think with this set you will reach easy the year 2060.:p
In my collection I have 2 D3's that will do, a CF and a black blade one.

I would like to own a Blue Delica ZDP 189 but that's the fourth generation.

The thing i like the most in the D3 is the very sharp tip!!!!

Everything alright in Assen/Smilde?;)

kind regards,

Werner

Nice collection spydutch!

If your collection will last for the rest of your life really depends on the amount of use your knives will face, isn't it? But without any abuse, I think there will be at least one D3 that will stay NIB forever :D

A little OT, but....

I find it interesting to see the differences in the edge grind between your D3 FRN and my SS Delica2... on the D3, the plain portion of the blade seems to be longer! take a look:

my mothers grandmother smoked cigarettes without filters everyday of her life, well since she was 13 and drank hard liquor for the most of her life. She lived to be 102.

I have both the D3/SE & the D4/SE and Ilike the D3 better. It fits my hand better and I love the shape of the blade much better then the D4.

You need a SS handled one, that should would up you odds.

Also, a few PE (he he) are in order. You never know, you could change your mind about serrations in a decade or two...

Arend,

I wish you will hit >100 years on age! Go on the safe side and try to obtain 2-3 more for your grandchildren :D

I think you're set.

I've done pretty much the same thing with the Delica 4. I didn't used to like it better than the D3 but I do now. I have enough D4's to last me a lifetime.

The Delica is my favorite knife of all time. Not just from Spyderco either, it is my favorite knife of all.

I often find myself coming back to the Delica 3. I have thought about getting a backup for this knife as well. I like the knife and its pointy tip. I reprofiled mine to get a thinner edge.

Murdoc,

I could be mistaken, but I think the blade on the Stainless D3 is actually a little shorter than the FRN D3

Hey Arend don't forget to get some serrated ZDP-189 blades in that collection. You won't regret it either. Trust me on that one ;) .

Also Arend I am really depending on you and a couple of other brothers here on the Forum to keep loudly beating the drum for a serrated CAPTAIN model.

Also we need a fully serrated recurve. Either Dialex's ADVENTURA or the Spyker ( both hopefully). Arend you are one of the main guys here on the Forum that got me to take a harder look at serrations. My big Dyad has become a serious friend as a result.

If you don't have a ZDP189 Delica PE ... better still a ZDP 189 Delica in SE then your missing out on the best of the best. IMO, The ZDP 189 in the the SE is the chain saw beast of all knives.

My $.02.

I think you need to double your collection. Here is my mental calculus: I don't know the retirement age in your country but lets guess you got another 20 years. Your work seems to be fairly stressing on knives. You become distressed at the slightest development to blade play. Your son will likely grow up wanting a few of your prized D3 SE. So you had better double your reserves!

If I'm 100% honest, one reason this time around that I went with Civi over a Matriarch (as much as I did love my old Matriarch) is that should I, god forbid, ever use the item for its intended purpose, or had to provide first aid, etc etc, it would probably be near to impossible to replace it. All that muscle memory, training on draw, etc, no longer usable, when I slightly clunkier option, which should remain available for the forseeable future, is available.

As much as I'm amazed by the ZDP steel, I like the handle of the 3 better.

I wish Spyderco would do another ZDP Delica/SE run with the old model(same blade shape, same handle black or BRG)

So Sal, if the molds are still there, PUHLEEZ???

The retirement age over here is 65 in general:eek:

Well maybe you're right Zen. I could use a few more then.

My son is into the bigger Spydies at the moment(Endura 3/SE and he really likes my CF Police/SE:D )

At work lately I'm using my POS box cutter for the most part. I only use my serrated Spydie for cutting polyethylene string when we have to exchange rolls(you should see my co workers hacking around with their box cutter to cut the string while 1 or 2 strokes with my serrated Delica or Military is all it takes for me:eek: :D )

Yep you might as well get them while they are fairly available rather than waiting until they are hard to scrounge up. :)
