Gunting or Yojimbo

I was wondering which of these two are harder to find? I'm thinking the Gunting is harder to come by. I have a chance to trade my Yo for a Gunting with the Bram video. Also, anybody carry a Gunting? How do you like it?

I guess the Gunting is harder to find, since it was discontinued before the Yojimbo. The S30V Gunting in PE is almost impossible to find.

If you are going to carry a Gunting...get a sheath. The Ramp gets in the way if you carry it in your pocket and personally I find it too thick to carry comfortable IWB.

The video is ok, but I also find it is only useful if you have another person to practice with.

I'd trade your Yo for the Gunting and then by another Yo. Since the Yos are easier to find you'll get both that way.

If I decide to get the Gunting I'll pick up a sheath for it. There's a guy that makes some really nice leather sheaths for it and the Yo. I dont think carrying IWB will be much of a problem. I already carry a pistol like that. If I had the extra cash right now, I'd buy anotherYo right away, and trade for the Gunting. I'm still working out the deal, so we'll see.

This is about as close to being a "no brainer" of a trade I've encountered here of late. The brother that said to complete the trade and just buy another Yojimbo is right on! The Gunting within about a year will be virtually impossible to find. They are getting tougher to find by the day and not to mention the collector appeal. I would do that trade immediately!

I just found out the Gunting isnt a Spydie. Its one of the newer made ones so I decided to pass on it as I was looking for a Spydie. I dont have the extra cash to but another Yo right now anyway..lol Hey JD, I may be moving down your way this summer.

Most likely the Lapu Lapu Corto. Bram's latest incarnation of the Gunting. With those on the market now, the Guntings are now firmly stuck in the "collectors" category. Anyone that wants one for training and use will get a much much cheaper LLC.

Yup, thats exactly what it was. But it was marked U.S.M.C on the blade.

I like the Yojimbo, but I'd have to go with a Gunting. I don't carry mine in a sheath. The Gunting was designed with a pocket clip and I still feel that pocket or IWB carry is the best option for this blade. That said, the ramp is not "suit pants pocket friendly." I carried a 440V Gunting every day for years while wearing dockers and a polo shirt, jeans and t-shirt, or SWAT gear, but don't carry it much in my current business suit environment because of the wear to the suit caused by the ramp "horns." It doesn't seem to be as much of an issue if you carry it in the inside breast pocket of a suit jacket, though:D .

I have a Yojimbo and carry this knife quite a bit. I have 5 Guntings, including my beat up EDC 440V plain edge and two S30V combo-edge examples (new in box ready to replace my 440V if it ever "gives up the ghost."). I have two Gunting trainers, one used constantly, including Kali classes, and one in the safe ready to replace the "user" trainer should it go belly up.

I have a Magnum version of the Lapu Lapu on order. I thought that, as long as I have the Guntings, I might as well get a big one of the new models. It will be interesting to see how it measures up to the original.

I really like the Yo! I like the Spydy Gunting, it was the first Spydy that I owned carried it for a year or so. I did not have the complaints that others have, yes the ramp will do a number on certain clothing and not best suited for suit carry, but it is still a well made folder. If you are a collector go with the above stated because the Spydy Guntings will be an after thought. Did I already say how much I like the Yo!.....:D Kali G let us know how the new model stacks up after you put it through its paces. Take care and God Bless!
