I'm looking for a classy lanyard to go on my new etched Dragonfly (see picture below).

I've never owned or used a lanyard before so I have no idea how to make one or where to get one.

What do you guys think would look good for a classy knife like this and where would be a good place to find it?

As always, thanks for your help!

Hmm.. Maybe some leather shoelace? I think some brown/black leather lanyard would look great. Maybe some black paracord would look nice as well. You can find paracord on the net pretty easily along with some simple lanyard trying instructions.

How do you like the new etched knives? I'm thinking about possibly getting an etched d-fly or cricket. It looks much better in your pic than stock pictures.

Black paracord with a pewter skull:D. But I am a bit biased...
Leather would shave that "technic" look of the 'fly, I would go with that.

Capt. Carl.. check out my other pics here http://spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28244

I was thinking maybe a gray leather for the lanyard. Do they make such a thing?

Gray leather should be possible. Are you looking for an actual lanyard or a fob? I would assume a fob is what you really meant unless you are worried about dropping your new knife and want to tie it off to your person ;)

The possibilities are almost endless for either lanyard or fob. I usually tie mine on the knife, just because the lanyard holes are usually too small to lark's head the size of line I like to use.

Yep.. a fob. My mistake.

I'm a fob/lanyard newbie.

Here is how I learned to make my first kind of lanyard.

Many of us make this exact kind. Below is a link to the instructions at Chris Reeve Knives website, and also a picture of the lanyard on my Navigator II.

I don't know if you consider this "classy" or not but I thought I'd throw it in.

Thought I would post an update, since its kinda patting myself on the back. :p

I decided to try and make my own lanyard/fob. I looked all over for materials, but all I could come up with was brown leather.

Since making the fob I find I'm putting my Dragonfly in my pocket more and more. I'm just skipping the clip and putting it right down in my pocket now. Its definitely seeing more use now. :D

Here are the results of my very first try at lanyard/fob making:

Awesome! Looks very practical. Nice choice on the brown leather. That would have been my first pick as well.

I have a similar but smaller black leather fob on my Kiwi.

Ghostrider does excellent work and is very reasonable. Can make just about anything you want, lots of options. Getting ready to contact him again for some more, I got more knives that need to be dressed.
