i know it has been posted before but i just got mine so here it is. the BRG zdp flat grind by tom krein. i asked him to make it a lil more pointy, like the older model endura. i threw in a E4 and the old first edition endura so you guys can compare. i plan on this being my edc so i'll post up in a few months to let you know how it is holding up.

It has a lot in common with the old full size Calypso.
Interesting thought Wouter, very interesting.

Ok.. I need to have that done to my BRG. What does that cost?

I'm not sure if I could live with the missing :spyder: though!

Very nice Tony, I honestly think the "semi leaf" shaped blade on that looks better than the straight spine of the older Enduras. Just be careful with the edge, compared with Tom's work, factory Spydies are DULL. :D

Tony that looks kick butt.

I gotta say that I really wish the D4 and the E4 had the old blade style but with the current larger hole.

The blade on that thing now looks like the blade on the original full size Calypso.

My ZDP Endura is going off to Tom Krein in the next week or so to get the same treatment. His regrinds are incredible, and compared to me trying to bomb through that much steel on a XX coarse benchstone the minimal fee is well worth it. You will love the additional cutting ability and ease of sharpening, and his edges are wickedly sharp.

Does Krein offer finishes that are less "rough" looking, more polished? Just curious.

I EDC mine, and am liking it a lot. I don't use it really hard, but it has held up well to a variety of tasks. As you can see, I swapped the BRG scales for foliage green. I'm also thinking of stripping the clip, or ordering a shiny one.

You could ask him, but, considering he is a one man shop and does them by hand, I think it would be quite an undertaking.

One of these days Ill get around to getting this done. I really like them. I am alittle worried as to how thin the blade might end up being on such a long blade.
Im more inclined to send off my Native to get flat ground. Wonder how that would turn out.

ok i'll try to answer some of the questions and respond to a few comments 1it was 42 shipped back to me. 2as far as the weekly updates, i edc this when i go to the firehouse which is every 3rd day, and its not like i am cutting everything in sight so i dont think weekly updates would amount to any exciting news:p. 3the blade is thinner so i think i will have to be more dilligent in just using it to cut things. my work knife sometimes gets used in ways that would normally void the warranty:eek: .

I got my Native high hollow ground after I had sharpened it flat to the stone. Krein's treatment brought it to a .008" edge and removed all of the serious scratch marks my XX coarse DMT put into the blade. It cuts like a champ now, much better than factory. As long as you don't pry with the blade I don't see you having any durability issues with a grind like the one pictured.

Well, I figured with the Delica, more would like it because it's screwed and not pinned together, and it would allow a little handle swapping.

It would be very cool; if we could persuade Spyderco to take a standard shipment of ZDP BRG Delicas (let's say a 100), ask Tom Krein to do an aftermarket mod (i.e. the flat grind) and ship it back to Spyderco for engraving and distribution. I know I'm in the minority, but I wouldn't mind paying extra for this Delica modified by a great custom maker.

Jess Horn ZDP's, first one flat to the stone, second one reground by Tom Krein to a .005" edge:

My favorite, the Caly Jr. ZDP with .005" edge:
