I like the steel prtection blade coating offers, but virtually all spydies are not coated. Is there a way I could go about coating some of my blades on my own?

I've seen spray on parkerizing for guns,it might work on knives too.

I, too, am interested in getting a blade coated. I recently was at a cutler with an impressive inventory & he told me that he could have most Benchmades coated by sending it back to them. I don't know whether to believe him. Is this true? Because I'm reluctant to believe him.... Also, I have a fully serrated knife & I found someone who works & I think owns the shop that will professionally sharpen it with a machine. I'm not an expert in this stuff, but he did an excellent job sharpening my Gerber Mark 1. It's a semi-big bootknife. It was a birthday present from my father. The shop is called the Cutler's Cupboard in Escondido, CA (760) 489-0200. www.cutlerscupboard.com

By the way, the above mentioned cutlery is not the one that informed me of the blade coating from Benchmade. It was one in Orange County, CA. I just can't remember what it's called. I'll post it here if I remember....bye.

I don't believe Benchmade will coat a blade... as they will not recoat one.

Walter Birdsong will coat blades. He came up with either Black T or Black Ti or something like that... Can't remember right at this second. I know it's a decent black coating anyway.

Coating a single blade is a lot more difficult than one might imagine. It probably is not practical in most cases.

Sal's probably right. I went to a cutlery near my home today & the person attending me said that it's much harder than it sounds....he suggested to just buy a coated blade....but, no, I didn't get suckered into buying anything....

Darrell Lewis of Bodycote will coat individual blades and if the body is metal, the whole thing. He is the fella doing the Boron Carbide coating on the Kershaw and William Henry knives among others. I have two Boron Coated Knives (Benchmade Park Avenue and William Henry Black & Tan Lancet). I highly recommend the Boron Carbide coating. It is superior to any other black coating I have ever used.
