Hello All,

Added another knife to my collection. It's not a Spyder, but I love this knife :o .

I had been toying with the idea of buying a Strider for quite awhile. Talked with some friends and several aquaintences and other forumites who own Striders, and I decided to pull the trigger on one. I went through Ryan at BlueLineGear.com. He had what I wanted in stock, so I just got it, because I figured that in the end, I would eventually break down and buy one, so there was no reason to screw around and put it off. Might as well buy the one I want if it is in stock and available.

I bought the Black G10/ Titanium Strider SMF with the Tiger Striped blade. I had originally been looking at the SnG, but I decided I wanted something bigger. I wanted a frame lock and a large tanto blade, so I decided on the SMF. First impression of this knife is excellent! It is friggin huge! Rock solid lockup. It is roughly as big as my Manix. Maybe a hair longer and wider, and a tad heavier, but very similar in size. The Strider has a little bit thicker blade. The Manix has a little bit longer cutting edge.

I really like the SMF. We'll have to see what happens after time, and how it holds up.

:D

heck of a knife! i had a chance to hold one at a NY knife show a few months ago. Super solid in hand, balanced, & its moderate weight delivers a nice heft.

Nice pictures man. Really looks good.

I have a thing for tanto blades though most folks don't care for them. :)

Yup, I told him you sent me! He remembered you and he took care of me ;) . Great guy. If I buy any more Striders I'll be going to him exclusively.

Thanks, Jim.

Cool! I told ya he's awesome.

The Strider tanto blades are the most unique tantos that I've ever handled, in that the front edge of the tanto blade isn't very sharp. At first, people often complain about that, until they learn the philosophy behind it.

It's not meant to be very sharp (sounds idiotic at first). The reason it's there is to pry, stab ridiculously hard materials, etc.. For such tasks, you actually don't want a super-sharp point. The grind angle is so shallow that it adds so much to its durability (the sharpened pry-bar concept in action). A fine, super-sharp edge would get the hell beat out of it in a hurry. But the duller, more durable edge will take such a beating without damage, it'll leave you shaking your head in amazement that an edge can take that amount of abuse.

The main cutting edge - well, that's sharp as the dickens!

Thanks for the info, Jim! I also love the tanto design. I'm really glad I bought this knife. It was definitely worth the cash!

Man I like the look of these Striders but the price really keeps me away. I've contemplated picking up one of the cheap ones that... hell I forget who makes them... makes. They have a nice industrial brutish look to 'em.

You are probably thinking of the Strider/Buck, dedguy.

I used to think the price was really just to high, but they are worth every penny. If a Knife sucked or was not worth the money, people her know I would be an add and say so. But I can day without a doubt while the Strider knives may be expensive, they are worth the asking price.

I am selling a Buck 889 over on the badlands classifieds if ya want to take a look, its brand new and Il give ya a good price.

But when ya put $400 on a knife, its a little bit of a shock at first, but once ya use it, you realize it is really worth it.

I agree with Vincent. A Strider is worth every penny. I went over to the USN to do my research, and I have to say, at first I was skeptical. But I heard so many stories and personal experiences with these blades in the line of work that I am in, that I just couldn't resist.

When I first started looking and all of the guys at USN were telling me what to get, I was like, "WTF? You've got to be kidding? $475 for a folder!?" But after I broke down and pulled the trigger, and now that I've been able to carry and use it for awhile, I know it is worth it. In all honesty, I knew it was worth it when I pulled it out of the FedEx package. The SMF is freaking dropdead solid, no bladeplay, perfect lockup, and one hell of a hefty package. Just by holding it, you can tell that it is in a different league.

I don't regret paying the price at all, because even though I own several knife brands (mostly Spyderco), I don't think I'll be needing to buy another knife again. And that's kind of cool.

:D
