Alrighty... so WAY back when I got my first spydie (aug 99 IIRC), it was the '98 model delica... FRN, ATS-55, PE. Beat on it for a good 3yrs before I gave it to my buddy. And I mean I beat on it... but it was still solid after 3yrs.
I've bought a given away a few of them over the years (along with a handful of ladybugs and jesters).
Picked up another delica again this last week for a work toy (my supervisor didn't say anything on wednesday when I used my millie to strip wire, but I figure it's probably safer to have a small one for work). '00/1 model (FRN, VG-10, PE, dent). Day 4 here of only using the delica.
So what has 4 days shown me again? The handle is still small for my paws, but I make do with small toys anyways (or I'd have quit carrying my 'fly long ago). Love the needle sharp tip on the older models (looked at the D4, didn't want to have to reshape it). Considering that work use, at least now that I'm upstairs, is cutting tape on boxes, opening packages of parts, cutting paper, the occasional cable tie, and cutting/stripping wire/cable when I don't want to find the right tool :p I'm tossing either my LM Juice or the LM knife that I have (305 I think) in my drawer for the screwdrivers.
So it's still not bad for a cheap beater/loaner. Even those of us who carry customs and own/use knives in the $300+ range continue to buy the delica/endura line... which proves why they have been cornerstone models for all these years. They just work.
Considering the price point on the delica compared to the byrd line, when it comes time to replace it, I'm just getting a couple byrds (looks like the BY04 is the delica alternative).
