You will have to have some "faith" in the doctor and the medical professionals. He/they will have the knife. Prayers to allah or other imaginary "beings" are acts of irrational behavior.

This is neither the time nor the place for a debate on faith in religion, science, rationalism, or nihilism. The man asked for some comfort, based on his belief system. If you don't share his beliefs, fine, but he has enough to deal with without sniping from the sidelines.

Best wishes to your son Mr. Smith, and my family and I hope that he has a swift and complete recovery from his time under the knife.

This is neither the time nor the place . "Anytime" that somebody is going to talk about prayer in public is a good time and place for a reality check.

Tap,
You are relatively new to our forum. We function a little bit differently here. We look beyond differences and support each other when we can. This thread is not a debate about beliefs, it is a request for support. If you cannot lend it, then please refrain from posting.

Perhaps this will help coming from the Admin for the site. This is NOT the time or place.

My Friend,

"Anytime" that somebody is going to talk about prayer in public is a good time and place for a reality check.

[RANT ON]

As I see by your post count that you have not been here an inordinately long time, I feel it best to point out a few things that might assist you in avoiding unpleasantness. While I understand your opinion on the matter (even if I do not share it), the thread itself was a wholly inappropriate place to bring it up. Furthering your personal agenda and belief system at the expense of another forum member who is obviously concerned for his son is deplorable behaviour. Whether or not you personally approve of his request for prayers is irrelevant - I guess it hails back to the old adage, "If you don't have anything nice to say..."

Sal and TazKristi have repeatedly asked that forum members refrain from purposefully inciting dischord on the forums, especially on such topics as religion. It is sad that some members seem incapable of respecting that request.

Whilst still on my soapbox, I will also point out that just because you hold a particular opinion does not make said opinion any more valid than mine or anyone else's. Your views and opinions are your own and you are free to enjoy them - expressing them in this thread to a concerned father was inappropriate behaviour by anyone's standards. I might also mention that this is NOT a public forum where anything goes - it is Sal's house and our behaviour should reflect that fact out of respect for both Sal and Spyderco.

Jeff I have put aside some time tonight to pray for 4 people. You and your son are 2 of them. I agree with Doc Snubnose that your son is going to be just fine. It's always a bit scary with medical procedures but I am fully confident that you son is in great hands. Please keep us posted. JD

Tap, many of us (myself included) don't subscribe to any particular religious faction. But, ask yourself... is this really the place to announce your beliefs? We are here to share a hobby and occasionally ask for some support in difficult times. If you want an arena in which to argue your religious or anti-religious inclinations, perhaps there are other communities to join. A man is simply asking that people empathize with him in regards to an extraordinary issue in his life, this has nothing to do with god, just help a brother out.

Just so you know, we have been through this before... This was the ultimate conclusion. (http://spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25598)
