I think if we offer a pledge to Children's Hospital of Denver with the purchase of a CF Civilian, that might help to get Sal interested. I understand it wouldn't be a huge number of pledges and it would make the cost of the knife higher, but it is a good cause.

I am willing to pledge $50 if Sal makes a serrated CF Civilian. If he makes a Plain Edge CF Civilian, I'll pledge $100.

I'd prefer plain edged CF Civvy for looks.
CF isn't 'user' handle material - too slippery for hard beating but great for a drooling piece.
But I'll take any CF Civilian that is available for me.

Tommi, at that other place someone came up with the brilliant idea of some traction grooves in the handle - not only practical but it would really set this Civilian apart from the others.

My bank won't be happy with me, but I'd be in for a CF serrated edge with Traction Grooves. Be sure to use a black clip that lets the Civvie ride low in the pocket - I sure like the new clip! Also, I would contribute to the charity of choice - The Children's Hospital. Another idea, if anyone is uncomforatble with that charity, would be a &quot;Scout's Honor&quot; pledge to contribute to the charity of your choice. From what I've read by the members here and at Bladeforums, we could all be trusted to do what we say. Remember how well things turned out for Horton when he said what he meant and meant what he said????

I'm considering the &quot;CF&quot; Civilian an &quot;if&quot; and not a &quot;when,&quot; since I've been told it's a wee bit premature for me to go placing orders for them. And getting a special run of several hundred knives from the factory is probably a process measured in weeks and months, not days and weeks.

A couple of cautions: First, the Civilian itself is a knife that has a special &quot;not for everyone&quot; appeal, and the enthusiasts in the knife forums on the Web may or may not be enough by ourselves to make a special run make sense. Also, carbon fiber is not the easiest material to get right, and actually have it look and feel better than G10. I've met some CF versions of factory knives that I considered good buys at a close-out discount, but would have been disappointed if I'd paid anything close to &quot;list.&quot;

I'm not sure if this will help. But I would be interested in the (2) plain and (2) serrated of the carbon fiber civilians. I have a couple now and it is the most intimidating knife I have ever owned. Sure hope Spyderco comes through with this one!!!

JYork. It really depends on the model and the maker. It also depends on the additional tooling involved. With some steels, there are large minimum quantities or long lead times. No hard and fast rules.

Ben, no there should be 300 left. Most collectors only get 1 knife, not both versions.

Since the CF Civvie is considered a variation, there is no requirement for the (1st 200) collectors to buy one (except those that commited to get them all). So more than likely, there will be more than 300 left.

If the demand is great enough, we could make another 500 for a 1,000 total. However, I don't think this knife will be popular outside of Spyderco collectors. I wouldn't want to make more than 1,000 total though, regardless of demand.

Thanks for the info guys! I was assuming that the CF Civilian serrated edge would be the numbered editions and the plain edge ones would be the numbered ones with the &quot;V&quot; (as opposed to them all being numbered with &quot;V&quot; because they are all variants of the original civilian).

Is there provision for collectors club member to accept a variation of a knife without having to accept all variations.
I know most Spydercos are great as serrated blades but sometimes it's nice to own both plain and serrated of select models.

I've been WAY busy, but I wanted to drop in and say &quot;hey.&quot; I believe the rumour is true. Carbon Fiber Civilians, both plainedge and Spyderedge, are in the works. That includes lefties in both versions. SFO has them on order and will have them available WHEN they are available. I'm interested in reserving a pair of them (one left-handed, one right-handed, both SpyderEdge), but I want to make sure I can afford them before I commit myself.

cam, the MSRP was posted a while back on the Carbon Fiber Civilian. $227.95. So my guess is they will be at least $160, if not more. Ron....
