Thanks for the tip. I've been interested in a Navigator for quite a while, but was hesitant due to tip down and the stainless handle. But for that price I couldn't pass it up.

I couldn't decide between plain or serrated.

yeah i used that code on my first order and got the navs for 31.96, which is the price they are at now (this was when they were 40% off, they are now 60% off).

today i used another coupon to get free shipping on any order of $75 or more. STP has some great spyderco deals once or twice a year, and signing up for their dealflyer makes it even sweeter.

I keep this website on my favorites, they close out spyderco's from time to time. at really good prices. their prices sometimes go back up, or change dramatically, so it is worth checking on a fairly regular basis. I personally am waiting for the Redbone kiwi to go down a bit farther. That is a pretty unusual fluke. They were bragging to me about their return policy when I ordered there one time. I've never heard of a new one with a cracked blade before. Joe

that must be a fluke. i received two navigators and both were perfect. i also have three more coming tomorrow. i'll let you know what condition they are in when they arrive.

i've never heard of a new knife arriving with a cracked blade! i'm pretty sure there is a return form included in the shipping box -- you may want to contact STP (or spyderco directly). good luck!

Order a shirt clearly marked "2nds, minor flaws" and if you aren't happy with it they will refund your money.

STP has strong ethical beliefs that they adhere to even if it takes away from their 'bottom line' - much like another company with which we are all familiar....

I odered a Nav PE last Thursday and they really messed up my order. By the time they worked everything out the warehouse was out of stock-

But-they came thru in the end and found one for me in there Coyote store and it was shipped out yesterday-I was told. Since it did not come from their warehouse no way to check shipment. Told today I should receive it beginning of next week.
I am hoping it is one of the newer thinner Nav 2 but no way of know until it gets here.

FYI -- just got my 3 Nav II PEs from the Brown Man. All three are perfect, as were the two I got earlier from STP. FWIW, all are dated "CG" (March 2007), as was the Vagabond I also received.

I think the Vagabond will be seeing a lot of use in the kitchen. The built-in blade guard is practical and ingenious.

I got my PE and SE yesterday. I was very surprised how small the Navigators are. They look awsome and feel great. I was not sure how I would like them, because I've never handled the stainless handles. But I really like them. I have no concern about maintaining a secure grip.

The bad thing is the SE had a defect. I'm not sure if it's a spring or the lock, or something else. The blade was EXTREMELY difficult to open after the first half centimeter or so. It was so stiff the lock did not want to engage. Even when it did engage, it did not always pop up all the way. Also, the blade would not stay in the closed position. It would swing open that first half a centimeter or so, which exposed the tip.

I called STP yesterday evening and asked if they could exchange it. The woman gave me no hassles at all. She said a new one would be shipped out, and for me to ship the defective one with the return label that was in the box. I got the email that said the new one was shipped this morning, before I even shipped back the defective one.

I'm disappointed that I have to wait a couple more days. But overall I'm very impressed with the Navigator, and very impressed with STP--both with their prices and customer service. Although I should reserve final opinion until I get the new SE in hand...

Word of warning, I put in the coupon code, it applied, and I entered my payment info. I have seriously slow down on buying knives, had been doing very well until I started frequenting these forms again. Bad influences anyway I snagged a forager couldn't pass it up. But as a city dweller who rarely camps. It may be a the first knife I own that never sees any use released in the near future. I am going on a camping trip in a month or so. But it will be a fairly serious hiking expedition. With my sister's fiancé who is far more athletic than I am at this point. I'll probably go with something much smaller for the trip. Plus we sharpening that convex edge, for one trips worth of use is pretty daunting. It will be my first knife in this size range. My closest second is a cold steel Susu at about half the size. I have a Randall on the way at the end of the year. But that will also be a very low use piece. UNLESS the world goes to helll:eek:

Carried it today, and is a dream with the wire clip and hooked scale behind it.
Makes deep carry easy to find. And takes up much less pocket space than I would have thought.

One question, though: Are the handle screws supposed to be proud? It seems like they'll make for hot spots in use compared to flush or sunken ones.

Yes they were discontinued, however that does not mean they were out of stock when they were. Spyderco uses Sierra to get rid of the last of stock, from time to time.

These are great knives, but what killed them was cost. I was in the Collector's Club at the time, and I shelled out over $300 for the largest of the series at the time.

Mine is fairly dull. :( It cannot cut a paper. Also, screws are not recessed, which is surprising. Still my Forager will serve well to my intention of use: to be a safe (actually display) queen. I love this micarta and you cannot beat the price.

Thanks. My screws are not recessed as well but I do not mind. I cant feel them when I hold the knife. The sheath fits great. Sorry about yours not being to sharp. I love the edge on this blade it looks like a mirror. And your right the micarta is great as well.

Mine feels that way too, but I can't tell if it's because of the convex edge, or because I'm used to my Yojimbo nearly cutting any appendage near it :p

Yes it is slightly different than a yojimbo.;) My Forager is the only knife in recent times that I have cut myself with.It was razor sharp when new.

I suppose this is a chopper where toughness is more important. The blade has to be thinner to be a good slicer, but you don't want end up with a kitchen knife anyway. Mine came not shaving sharp either, but I guess it is OK as a chopper.

Some times they will give a deal when you buy over $100 you get $2.99 shipping. I did that when I got a second Rock Lobster and Orange Urban.

FWIW, it seems they sometimes send different offers out to different people on the same day. The same time that others were seeing the Rock Lobster for $130, the offer I received had it for $139.

And many times they have some high% off, but the knife models I want aren't even included in the sale.

rodloos, yeah, I see that a lot, they typically send two emails per day and the codes last 2 or 3 days. You normally have to click on the last 3 or 4 emails, and just see which one gives the best offer. It's sort of a gamble when you see a model you like, and wait... it could sell out before the deal comes around that you want to bite on.
