if any booger man comes into my room @ night, he's got a BIG suprise! I sleep w/ my merlin and my gerber ax... any one else have my issues? if so, tell me about your slumber pointy. (this doesn't include wives, boyfriends, or any other scary thing that may sleep w/ you.) by the way,

Lol, wiley sharp!

Wow, a Merlin AND an ax? Definitely a scary thought!

As far as knives at my bedside, I keep my SS Police, FRN Native, and FRN Endura on my nightstand. All serrated, of course. These are my usual everyday carries (EDCs). I simply empty out my pockets and put just about everything on my nightstand.

As far as anything else, there's my trusty H&K Compact .40 sitting next to my SureFire 9Z flashlight, my Glock 17 in my nightstand, and, in case of bear, my Winchester Defender 1300 shotgun with 3" magnum slugs, underneath the matress.

And, if all else fails, I've got my wife next to me, who can scare ANYTHING or ANYONE into a near death experience!

My knife drawer is in the living room next to my computer table, but my Mouse does sleep on my night table every night, along with my old alarm clock and about 15 piled-up books that constantly change (I love to read, I am a book-worm). I guess I can seriously hurt someone by throwing books at them... LOL!

Then again, my living room is about five steps away from my bedroom, so...

I didn't say before, but I keep a 5' japanese bo made of japanese white oak next to my right side, so within a second, I can have it smashing someone if they disturb this sleeping wolf....I also believe that one should have the weapon they're most confident & proficient with at their side. Unfortunately, I'm haven't been trained with how to use a knife....but that'll hopefully change soon....

My room is somewhat small so all my knives and martial arts weapons are readily available. Here we go:Military on night stand, pair of rattan escrimas next to bed, chinese broad sword on wall 4 staves lying around, a 3 sectional staff, a pair of kamas, and 4 throwing knives. I pity whoever breaks into my house, I could keep em busy while my dad grabbed the guns. I would hate to be on the receiving end of the police riot shot gun we have. You hold her tight, hold down the trigger and pump away.

Wiley,

[Cultural Capsule for the day]

I only sent my regards to the city of Monterrey (Sultana del Norte = Sultan of the North, that's a nickname for the city, it's a very wealthy city in Mexico), where Patogordo is located. Regios are the people from Monterrey, Chihuahueños are the people from Chihuahua (where I am from). Northerners in Mexico are stereotyped as tough people.

If I post anything in Spanish, it's like posting an inside joke from a movie, like so many others do so here, don't be offended. I would never post anything bad for anyone.

For me, I always have a Chinese 56 SKS bayonet (manually sharpened and serrated)ready under my matress and a police under my pillow. This 3-groove bayonet penetrates extremely well and can cause serious bleeding. And, believe me, the wound made by its parkerized blade are really hard to heal

just a bit of info...you all do know that in the US if someone breaks into your house with the intent to steal and shows no intent of physical harm towards you it is illegal for you to shoot or stab that person...you could provoke them into a fight and then it would be legal for you to whip out a knife in defense but only if the burglar has the intent of physical harm to you can you attack them....at least that's how it is where I live

so if someone jumps in your house..provoke them to fight with verbal violence first..then when they attack...let the Spydies bite...

and obviously if they have a gun or a knife that means you don't need to "verbalize" them first because if they don't have the intent to harm you physically they wouldn't have brought the weapon....so no questions like "what if they point a gun at you?"

Good point Kraziekurtis,

the lesson here is -self-defense. Don't use your weapons unless your completely sure you're in danger. Or else, you could be the one to be held accountable. I guess it's not difficult to preceive if YOU ARE in danger, if someone breaks in to your house......why would they break into your home in the first place? to rob your home or assault you? That's what I would assume & I think that's a realistic assumption. Anyone care to comment....

I forgot to point out that IF the intruder is intent on stealing, then no, it is not ok to shoot him/ stab him/ attack him. I would think to hold him at bay because YOU are the one with weapon. If he has one also, then ok, you have the right to engage him in combat for the sole purpose of defending yourself. afterall, an intrusion in our homes is an intrusion in our lives & we should have the right to defend our property like we would do ourselves.

Since I have all my knives stored in my night stand drawer next to the bed, I have EVERYTHING if anyone tries breaking into my flat through the windows...if they want to risk a 22-story fall...

But my wife has stopped me placing any of my goodies on top of the night stands long ago to stop me stabbing her during my sleep-walkings...not very sure whether I could open drawers while asleep though...

Does that count as murder if you kill your wife while sleep-walking???

I remember reading about a court case where the husband used that as his defense but I can't remember if it worked for him....

Provoking intruders verbally would be construed as provocation on your part...which means that you would be at fault as well if the intruder attacks you. Instead, try to use non lethal alternatives such as sticks or blunt weapons whenever possible.

Always remember that in law, preservation of life is paramount, especially when compared to the preservation of property (except in South Australia apparently....a homeowner who beheaded 2 robbers and injured 2 others with a samurai sword was not charged).

So if it is absolutely clear that someone has broken into your house just to steal, stabbing or shooting him or her to death could amount to murder or manslaughter. There have also been cases when thieves and robbers who have injured themselves while robbing houses have successfully sued the homeowners for obscene sums of money.

So please DO NOT be too trigger or stab happy....you could end up in jail or bankrupt yourself. In addition, never chase a robber past the boundary of your property as any attacks upon him in such a situation would be construed as assault.

Having said that, people in areas where such laws are strictly enforced should petition their local MP or congressman to change those laws. In today's lawsuit happy society, its sad that people aren't allowed to lawfully defend invasions of property.

Knives and guns give the owner a great deal of power, and like spiderman used to say 'with great power comes great responsibility'....

Also, for those of you who leave knives in your living rooms or lying around, please remember that intruders can easily use them against you.....

Sharp1....i actually edited my post to include verbal assaults. Just one more thing.... If possible, try to install a security sytem or alarm. If you can't afford one, put a fake one up (especially one with a flashing lights) or buy a guard dog.....studies have found that these 2 measures drastically reduce the chance of break ins.....which means that you won't even have to worry about using force at all. Sorry for the long windedness....currently doing a masters paper on criminal justice and came across these interesting tidbits.....wouldn't like to see any fellow forumites going to jail....

You need a fence and a dog. And good locks. If you have these items you are not likely to have someone break into your house. If someone is in your house, tell them to leave and they probably will. If you stab or shoot them, you will spend alot of time at the police station and maybe court. Not worth it. Plus, you are very likely to shoot or stab someone you know and love. Then you may go to jail. And ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Ahhhhhhhh, Knife knut gods country, gotta love it.
If a person is stupid enough to get past my but Rotty Sam, and kick in the red oak door with the dead bolt,i'm assuming he's going to do bodily harm to me and mine.
We do things a lil different down here as K. K. pointed out, i sleep with a small neck knife made by CRKT it's not big nor heavy BUT! it's always there 24/7 365, the Bowen 50 special is always in my night stand housing 5 375 grain hard cast lead hotties and a bad temper.
My family has always had several LEO'S and iv'e been advised to just make sure he/she is INSIDE the doorway when he meets Mr Bowen, iv'e never had to shoot anyone but i do have a CCP and would protect my family till my last shot.
As far as what knife is on the dresser that depends on which i was playing with last when i headed to bed, but usually the 50/50 FRN Endura somehow always makes it there.
I should point out that when the grand kids stay over i unload the guns and put em away safe, i'm far more afraid of 1 of them getting hurt than i am of me loosing property. Ron
