hi all! greetings from the Philippines!

oh, first off, i gotta give credit where it is due.. thanks goes out to Kristi of Spyderco who helped me register my account.

Hi everyone! this is my first time posting here but ive been lurking around for quite some time now. and from everything ive read and seen here, i could definitely say that no other forum or community compares! i normally dont involve myself in internet forums but i feel that ive gotten so much from this place that i have to involve myself somehow to give a little something back.

so, here goes:
i started out getting into knives about 4yrs ago. the first locking blade that i bought was a gerber applegate covert. it wasnt a bad knife, and i still have it today. when i bought it, i remember looking around the knife store and seeing some spydies. i thought to myself "what a bunch of ugly-looking knives" and "what the hell is that hole for? havent they heard of thumb-studs?" oh, and also "what kind of name is spyderco? their logo looks like what spider-man's logo would look like if it ate too much and didnt work out".

anyway, i made do with my gerber covert for a while but then the need to buy a new knife hit me. so, i did some research on the internet and came across the spyderco website, and saw the native III. i thought it was the most "traditional" looking so i considered it. about a week later, i handled the knife in our local knife store and was really amazed at how comfortable the knife was in hand. what surprised me even more was the price (it cost about 1/3 the price of my gerber). so, i bought it right there and then, and ive been hooked on spydies ever since.

now ive gotten to appreciate their "ugly" looks, because i know theyre "ugly" for a real reason (not beautiful for the sake of being beautiful, like most knives). and the hole, ive gotten to love so much that i wish my thumb could develop a callous to fit right into them. as for the brand, its become synonymous with quality and service. plus, i bet that spydie bug can beat-up spider-man's logo anyday!:D

so thats me. thanks for reading this long post! just to break up the dizzying text, heres a pic of 2 spydies i EDC.

thanks, doc! i always look forward to reading ur posts...specially when it comes to SD stuff.

..oh, and eastr, yup, one of the advantages of getting knives from the local store is that i get to handle them first before i cough up the dough. the only thing is, with spydies, i always wanna buy them right away. (too bad the wallet cant keep up).:(

thanks as well bh49!

will keep the pics coming, guys!

thanks for the warm welcome, guys! and its glad to know that we share the same experiences. u know, non-knife people should really spend some time here so they can see that spyderholics are actually the friendliest of people. u see, here in the Philippines, people just dont understand what knives are about (pretty ironic, huh? so much for "the land of balisongs") so they just label knife-carrying people as either a criminal, or a warfeak. :(

anyway..
ei, spydutch! reading ur posts got me hooked on spyderedge, bro. that dodo u see in the pic is in SE because of ur influence. haha!

and btw, anybody else here from the Philippines? or of Filipino descent?

oh, and one more pic.. (sorry for the quality, im only using my cameraphone)

Welcome to the forum, Crunch! All of your pictures are EXQUISITE primarily because you seem to put the clip on the proper side of the knife ;)

I'm also having a hard time accepting that your above picture is from a camera phone. That's pretty sharp resolution if it is!

Enjoy your stay!

hi there fellow lefty! aint it just a joy that spydie clips are ambidextrous? oh, and my cameraphone has 5mp's, its better than most, but theres still a considerable difference from dedicated digicams.
