Everybody is talking about Chi... Gu... or Mil..., but isn't police a good choice? Although it is a little bit too slim, it does make it easy to carry considering its size. And I love the sharp angle of its tip.

golem, knives are like wine and women......it's all in what YOU
like. For the moment several spyderco models are "HOT" which
is good for spyderco sales, but there are still the "stable" spyderco's
that have a following that really like the knife they own. The police
is one of those. Marketing is the life blood of any company so
the "HOT" knives keep the old marketing heart beating strong.
The SS Police model was my very first Spyderco. Serrated of Coarse1 It was my EDC and self-defence knife for almost 3 years. I believe that the police is a good choice for a self-defense knife, but when held up to others in our production line......well.....there are better models. I don't know about the Chi being better, but IMHO, the gunting and the millie are superior in both design and materials. These two knives are "heftier" and deploy easier than the C07. Yes, the police is long and slender with a good penetrating point, but I would much rather have knife with more "beef" and versatility anyday.
I would still be carrying my Police, except Sal told me a while ago how few titanum ones there where, so I retired it in favor of a Starmate. I don't think I was any less protected by carrying the Police, because I haven't got much training, which seems a nust with the Gunting, and I just found it more comfortable to carry and use than that big ol' Mil. Personally, I always thought the Mil was over rated, except that it used S60V. Different strokes, I guess...as long as those strokes are on the Sharpmaker!
Its all fun and games til somebody loses an eye, then its fun annd games you can't see.
