I recently took a NIB D3 out of my collection to use for work (by the recommendation from forum members here!) and noticed it had a good amount of side to side play. On further inspection, I noticed that the lockbar wasn't fitted quite straight, and when I held the knife up to the light I could see a good size gap on one side of the lock bar. I thought about peening the pin with a flat punch to make it a bit tighter, but figured it may void my warranty. It is still usable, and has zero up and down play, but I worry that the side play may get worse from use. Am I being too picky( I hope not), or should I send it in? Are the D3s even covered under warranty since they are discontinued? I really like this knife otherwise, and have owned many spydies before with no problems. Also, what is the address that I can sent it to for inspection if it is still covered? Sorry for all the questions, but I would really like to start carrying my spyderco knife again. I hope this doesn't sound like I'm bashing spyderco at all, as the delica is one of my favorite knives of all time.

Send it in. They may not be able to fix it for you but may end up sending you a newer Delica.

How bad is the side to side play. A little is sometimes normal.

I compared it with 2 FRN enduras 1s, a FRN dragonfly, and a FRN jester. These knives did have a small bit of side to side play, but the D3 was noticeably worse.

Send it in. Or call / e-mail first if you are worried about it. The warranty folks don't respond on this forum... But occasionally Sal will.
