Police G10 PE vs MILITARY PE

I know I can trust you so :

What would you choose ?

Both are G10 handled, slim and lightweight, flat edge blade.

Military is supposed to be rock solid, but I heard about problems with screws in G10.

I love Police Model, partly because I am a LEO and it is a great classic from spyderco, a must have for collectors.

But I want a utility knife, not a collectible, and I don't know what to think about ATS 55 edge retention.

G-10 Police or Military.....

I can't say for sure which one I would pick up, but I can give you the run down of both and hopefully help you in a decision. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

The Military is a heftier knife and will be more versatile than the police. The Mille also has the CPM440v steel as opposed to the ATS-55 in the police. I prefer the CPM because of it's ability to hold an edge, and it is more corrosion resistant than the ATS. Both blades are flat ground, but the point on the military isn't as tapered as the police. This means the police will penetrate easier, but the military will stand up against accidental twisting during a cut better.

Enough about the blades, let's discuss locks. The police is a lock back and the military is a liner lock. Both models open easily, especially after the course of time and some play. This is really personal preference, but the liner lock will deploy easier.

The military will be easier to clean the inside, because it has an open &quot;spine.&quot; Just run a little hot water throught the knife, dry well and apply oil. This is harder to do with the police.

Hopefully this helps you out a bit. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Initially I would say go with the millie, but also realize that the G-10 police has been discontinued. The millie will be around for a while longer. I prefer to pick up discoed blades first, because you'll usually kick yourself later when you can't find it. There.....I'm done now. You can't go wrong with the military. It is an awesome knife and probly of the spydies I own it is the one I carry the most.

I have a military, I love the military, it's my everyday carry, and I too am a cop. That said, I've always wanted a police model, for whatever reason, I just haven't gotten one. Yet. I'll go with the stainless, though, the classic.
So my point? I think that, in the end, it doesn't matter which you get now. You'll be back for the other.

Both are awsome knives.
I love the sleek lines and the SS handle of the Police model, but I also love the toughness of the Military model.

Both are very slim (the Military surprisingly so), but the Police is also narrower, so it might sit easier in a crowded pocket.

If I were gong fo a Police model I would go with the SS handle. If I wanted specifically a G-10 handled model I would go with the Military.

They're both great knives. Other factors you may want to consider based on your normal usage are how the knife closes and what you will normally be cutting. The liner lock on the Military is slightly easier and safer to close one-handed. Also, if cutting seatbelts or plastic ties will be typical uses for your knife, you may want to consider a serrated rather than plain edge blade. (The serrated edge should grip the materials and start the cut more effectively than the plain edge. Although a rough edge can be produced with a coarse stone sharpener on the plain edge). The Police with its narrower blade should be more efficient in slipping into cramped areas for the cut. I think these comments might make your decision more difficult, sorry about that. Finally, here's my advice: get a serrated stainless steel Police. (Try it as it comes out of the box first, you can apply some abrasive adhesive strips on the handle later, if needed).

I own the Military and the stainless
Police models; in both serrated and plain edge versions and I still want to get a G-10 Police. They seem to be a really nice balance of lightweight, grippy handles, and a flat ground blade. Personally, I really like ATS-55 and have no trouble getting a really good edge on it, whereas I have had some trouble in this area with CPM-440V. I have also had no problems whatsoever with corrosion of ATS-55 as others have reported.

If you can handle both knives before you purchase you should, as this may make your decision much easier. Or you know...perhaps not.
