Laguiole knives, how do they lock? Do they lock?

I was looking at the AG Russell used knife website (http://www.cuttingedge.com/)and saw this (http://www.cuttingedge.com/products/klc02342_laguiole_style). I searched this board and saw that the Ramco knives are desirable but even the Laguiole websites don't explain the mechanism of the dang knife.

Does the blade lock open? Is there spring tension to keep the blade open? Does the blade have a spring assisted opening?

To my knowlege they do not lock, Just handled one the other day and there was no lock on that one. But I am pretty sure they do not lock. There are those that will know a whole lot more than me here though.

nope they dont. they do have an insanely tight spring so watch your fingers :O. I love my olive wood Jean Dubost Laguiole :)

Somebody got me "one" as a gift. It must not be the real thing because it said "China" on the box and has the worst fit and finish I've ever seen on a knife. I have plastic spoons that have a sharper edge than it does too. :)

The "thing" that I have doesn't lock.

On mine i have to tug to get the blade out and use a little force to close. on closing dont leave fingers in the way or they are screwed. i love mine though :)

P.S. Dave theres a Problem with Chinese companies taking the design as its not one companies property so watch out for them. :)

Hi Guys
there are some Laguioles that have a lock. I have one, purchased in Nice, that has a backlock.It is still very tight to operate and is too pretty to carry anyhow.

Mine doesn't lock, slipjoint construction from what I can tell. Takes a fair bit of force to open, and about the same to close.

Normal Laguioles are, as has been said, slipjoints with a very strong backspring. The Ramco, on the other hand, is a lockback, with the "bee" attached to the front of the lockbar. One could argue that it's not truly a Laguiole, but rather Sal's unique interpretation of that design.

The Laguioles of Fontenille Pataud come with a lock back, and some models
are one hand openers. See their web site. Last week I did receive a one hand
back lock from them, with olive wood handle scales, and I am in love with this
old world beauty!:D
