Sharp1,

I do not know about the Toad, but as for the Chinese folder, I had noticed that little variation on the clip as well. Rather unique of this knife, I must say. I think it goes quite well with the overall design, gives certain fluidity to the clip. The Chinese folder competes in elegance with the Howard Viele.

Here's a pic of the folder marking that specific clip difference.

i agree i like the look of this type of clip myself. the bob lum is one of my favorite knives. very elegant. i don't own a toad but would like to.

The C-clip is one of the really nice little detail touches on this knife. It fits neatly around the pivot screw, but also fits around the lanyard hole so that the clip is much closer to the end than with most tip-up knives. Sal and the design crew really paid just that little bit more attention to detail in developing this design. BTW I carry mine tip-up, partly because that's the way Bob Lum makes the custom version, but mainly because I just like it better that way <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>.

The clip appears to be based on the G-10 Police Clip. Unfortunately I could not find a picture to post

No, your Toad is not unique. I have handled two, one of witch I own, and both do as you have described. The Toad is my favorite dress up knife.
And I have read that Spyderco did go to some trouble to design a clip for the Chinese folder.
