I just worked a trade with my brother. I loaned him my glovebox knife, a Cold Steel medium Voyager clip point with serrated edge while I sharpened his work knife. He liked it, so I offered to trade him the Voyager and 20 bucks for his Spyderco Spydercard. He agreed and we did the deal.

On one hand, I traded him a decent knife that he will actually use for a knife that he "carried to church a few times." I see that as him coming out on top.

On the other hand, I made out like a bandit!!! Woooohoooo! :D

I did tell him that they are going for pretty good money on eBay here lately, so I didn't bamboozle him.

So, what do you guys think?

It sounds like a win/win situation to me.

So, what do you guys think?Nope, you're not evil, at least not on the basis of this transaction. Last time I looked, Spydercard was a $25 - $30 knife. Just because a couple people on eBay will pay more for one does not change that, at least in my opinion.

Case in point is the person who's bidding $100 on a Glock Endura on eBay right now when you can buy that knife online direct from the distributor for $49.95! :D

If you look in the right places, you can find a Spydercard for less the $25. ;)
IMO, if your both happy with the deal, then it's an open and shut case. :)

Almost anytime I can trade a Cold Steel blade for a Spyderco blade I'll do it. From the simple standpoint that the Spyderco will almost always acrue more value down the road than almost any CS blade will.

For instance about 3 years ago I once traded 2 Cold Steel Kobun fixed blades for 2 Spyderco Spyderhawks>>> at that time both knives could be bought for about the same price on Ebay>> well you know who was much more knife rich a year after that trade now don't you?

I can only think of maybe 3 Cold Steel knives I ever had that actually gained value over time. You would really have to think hard to come up with any 3 Spyder models that don't gain value over a 2 to 3 year period. Case closed

Well, our old pappy used to tell us stuff is only worth what you can get somebody to pay for it. So for those particular people, I guess the Spydercard is a 90 dollar knife.

My dad also gave me one of the best pieces of advice I ever got on dealing with women. He said, "Son, you don't have to tell everything you know!" LOL.

Anyways, my bro paid more for the Spyder than I did for the CS, so I think we both came out even. Geez, I answered my own question. Sorry to bug you gentlemen :)

You're only evil if you cackled: "knife n00berz! Pwnd!" after making the deal. Congrats to you and your brother on both making out like bandits on your respective trades!
