Been an apparent problem with Customs, "gravity knife" definition. Any news, confirmation, etc from anyone on the Spydie forum?

Hey Sal didnt yall go through this with a bunch of Civilans a few years back.....
Hi Cyblade. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Ya'll have a good memory. They didn't like the one model, confiscated the entire shipment. We worked it out though. A pain in the butt, but, they're just tryin' to do their job and protect Americans. Gray areas do come up.
I'm hopin' that Paul & Rod are able to work theirs out as well. We've offerred our assistance if needed.

I believe the March of 94 issue of Fighting Knives that had the Keating article on the Civilian brought up the Spyderco shipment seized in Alaska. It still is a monetary loss hiring lawyers (paying lawyers) etc.
My thought though is Customs should be concerned with stopping child pornography, drugs, counterfeit products, etc. rather than items (knives) that have been imported for five years without being classified as an illegal weapon.

Dude - Lots of patience and knowledge needed here when it comes to dealing with the authority. They may not "like" the appearance of the knife and perhaps some education and awareness are vital in keeping the Customs informed. I think Spyderco did some very good damage control by restricting sale of the Matriarch to LEOs only. Its a very reponsible move. IMHO, manufacturers should form a strategic alliance with the authority to prevent losses due to miscommunication. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>
