I went for a job interview at the regional jail last week, because I figured it was time to start using my major. Well today I received the call I'd been waiting for. Starting October 8th I will be employed by the Northampton County Sheriff's Department as a Correctional Officer. I'll keep you all posted on how things go.

Hey Chad,

Why did I have the feeling you'd react like that.;)

I'm going to be working at the regional jail in Northampton County, that will handle inmates from Northampton and neighboring Accomac county. The total capacity is right around 350 inmates, and right now the population is around 90.

The deputies working in the jail are responsible for running the cell blocks, transport of prisoners, and occasionally work in the courthouse. We receive some on the job training at the start, which is followed by a 13 week academy in Chesapeake, Va.

Don't worry, this wasn't a snap decision, and I thought things over before I even went to the interview. This is, as crazy as it may sound, something I want to do. I shall keep you all posted on how things go. I'm sure I'll be back to ask for advice here and there too.

Behave yourselves

I'm on week two of the new job, and so far I'm enjoying it. I must admit I was a bit apprehensive when I first went in, but I'm starting to get the hang of things now. Of course, I'm over on the medium security side, so I haven't dealt with the worst of the worst yet. I'm sure that's a whole other ball game. Anyhow, I'll keep you all updated on how things go. Thanks again for the support and congrats everyone.
