View Full Version : Picture of the Moon Last Night
I have been working at trying to get a good picture of the moon. Last night I was finally rewarded. At least I think so.
What do you think?

Hot diggity! That is a great picture in my opinion.
Every time I see the moon, I wonder how history would have changed if the moon spun so that it visibly looked different.
BTW, do you have a higher resolution picture? I currently have a picture of the moon as my background and would like to try that one out.
I have one just a bit bigger, but not very much. I will be happy to email it to you if you give me your email address.

... What do you think?
Brilliant, Ron!
Please tell us more about the circumstances and your equipment. Thanks!
That's amazing! Very nice camera work!!
Thanks for the comments all! I have been trying for a while now to get a good picture of the moon. I have mostly failed miserably!! I finally figured out (I think) what I was doing wrong.
My equipment is nothing special. I have a Canon S3IS camera that has a 12X optical zoom. I then added a Sony Teleconverter that magnifies everything by 1.7X. I used a tripod and used full zoom. That is about it. I then cropped the picture in Adobe Lightroom and sharpened it just a bit.
I am glad you like the picture. It made me pretty happy.

Isn't it funny how good photos of the moon are made at "earth daylight" settings. You'd think the moon would need a lot of exposure, but if you think about it, it's sitting in broad daylight, so the sunny-16 rule seems to apply pretty well for exposure, doesn't it? Which means that no tracking is necessary, since the shutter time can be short.
It's a great shot, and I hope you try again during an eclipse; sometimes you can get a blood-red moon. If I can find my bloody-moon photos I'll post.
