C69GP #103 just arrived!

What a great knife Sal designed and now manufactures. The Olive Drab G10 Handles offer great hold/grasp options. Really solid. The clip is unique and classy looking-sort of aircraft component-ish. Nice touch. Image two below shows the Temperance along with a plain edge FRN LadyBug for size and color comparison. The "Temperance Leaf" opens and closes as effortlessly as a Viele. It features a compression lock. This MBC design is very heavy duty & utilitarian, yet has a charm of its' own.

None of this is "news", of course, but thought some of you may like a another peek at this LTD production masterpiece.
View Attachment...

View Attachment...
Sharp1,

Nice scans, as always. Well, you now put me in a problem. Shall I save for the Starmate (soon to be discontinued) or for the Temperance (I know this is pricier but what a cool knife!). Congratulations on the new knives!

Kahz,
Thanks. You are always so afirmative-a wonderful trait. Boy what a question! If you had not seen it, Sal posted last eve regarding the Temperance's limited production numbers due to possible acceptance issues with the spyderco public.(search) It is not a Gentleman's/Ladies dress knife-that is for sure-and has a steep, but fair price (two bills). It would certainly make short work of a steak at the supper club though, and be right at home at camp too. Due to the LTD Run status(how many?), I'm wondering how you would get your hands on one for starters. The Starmate is a keen, lightweight, good snappin' knife you will love and can obtain right now at agood price(Jed or John J.) for starters. And you are saving-up-right? Hmmmmm.....

Another knife you should handle right away, if you have not already test fit this model, is the Herbst Ti. This knife is a big Mouse. What a feel and heft it has. El Rata.

Decisions decisions decisions... Dunno Kahz

Sharp1,

Well, I am certainly not looking for a gentleman's/lady's knife. Got enuff of those from Spyderco and other brands.

Since I love camping, trekking and outdoors stuff, that's the main use for most of my knives anyway, this would be a nice addition (and a great show off! ). Yes, I can see that it will be hard to get. I hope it gains more acceptance in the market so more are produced.

I am saving for that Starmate (I pushed the Gunting down on my list, for a while). I have seen the Herbst live and I like it, it's dressy and sleek, but I want something a wee larger.

Rico, I saw the two blade types somewhere in the forum. I remember the other blade to be somewhat in the territory of a skinner. I already have several skinners so I am leaning more towards the one Sharp1 has, the leaf edge.

Rico,

Since these are specifically MBC knives I would think that the design of the upswept blade has been infuenced by James Keating and the Chinook. I don't know much about MBC but I think the blade shape is designed for trapping and back cuts. The leaf blade is pure Sal Glesser . If you want the Temperance for MBC, then your style will determine your choice. Otherwise just get the one you like the look of best, I know I prefer the leaf blade .

Kahz, if you're looking for a Herbst ti the knife shop I frequent has two. One P/E one 50/50. I have one on hold, they have a sale coming up (20% off). I can't decide between the two. If you're interested I can purchase it and C.O.D. it to you. Cost would be 170.00 minus 20% plus tax, shipping and 5.00 C.O.D. See thread "Question on Peter Herbst ti model" Clay gave some info on (thanks again Clay) and I still can't decide. As Sharp1 said it is a cool knife! Limited quantities too! So post or e-mail if interested. Anyone else want it I'll do same (but Kahz has first crack at it) I know you didn't sound to "enthused" but thought I throw it out there.

Kahz,

Do you feel lucky?

I have both knives and love them both.

The trick is do you buy the Starmate and hope that Temperance Leaf production is continued, or do take the chance that the Starmate will still be there later on.

I would go for the Starmate now.

Although it is cooler than beans, I think the Temperance is still a work in progress.

The fact that Sal is concerned about it, makes me believe that it will be modified to better meet the needs of the market place.

One way or the other, you pay for your tools!

Hoosier,

Thanks for the offer but I think I will go for the Starmate as soon as the fund reaches appropriate levels. I hope someone else jumps for that opportunity, tho!

Gadfly, thanks for the advice. Once I acquire the Starmate, I am sure it will be 50/50. Been carrying a plain edge Native II for a couple of weeks now and I love it, but I have a weakness for the 50/50 on the Starmate, so I will expect to get the best of both worlds.
