Hello all,
While looking around online at various merchants, I ran into something that confused me a little bit. The Spyderco Salsa, in particular the black one, I noticed that there was of course the black handle with the chili pepper on it and also a black handle which was plain, with no chili pepper. I know I am not confusing it with the titanium handled Salsa, so could somebody help me out?

I'm no expert but my understanding is that there was some of each produced. If you order one it may be a good idea to call first to verify what you are getting. Sometimes the picture does not match what you get. I ordered one without the pepper from a dealer (a dealer that most people on these forums respect highly). The one I received had the pepper and was missing a screw. Sooo, call first before ordering.

I believe the one without the engraving came later and exists in less numbers.

IIRC, i've seen a plain (pepperless) blue Salsa in addition to the black one on these forums...
I scored a black plain CE one from SFO back in 2005...

The one with the pepper was the next-to-last generation Salsa. The overall handle shape and placement of its Compression Lock are tre comfortable. The one without the pepper is a wee bit smaller, has an ambidextrous clip, and rides lower in the pocket (my red Salsa is easier to identify in pocket than my Cold Steel Vaquero Grande despite being a fraction of its size).
If you're a righty, go for the logo'd version! If you're a lefty, suck it up and learn how to carry and use the logo'd knife with your right hand (I did).

Nope, you are not wrong. There were both versions being made.

If da peppa was da middle generation, what was the first and what was the last?
Are you sure the non-logo'd is smaller?

The first gen was also peppered. And the black, ambi-clipped, logoless/pepperless one I sold was smaller than the righty-only red one I still have.

Anyone know the difference between the first and second generation pepper?

The first generation pepper had a high-riding ambidextrous pocketclip and may have had grey as one of its aluminum scale colors (the second pepper had red, blue, and green and finally black by accident) IIRC.

I couldn't. Pocketclip makes it right-handed. The lock is left-handed (an added bonus to the reliability and strength of the Compression Lock). The knife locks into my right hand and does its job feeling primal to me and looking like I'm abusing a metallic Snoopy to the world.
