Ok... for the fun part...

My Brother-in-Law's Step-Father (got that figured out?) bought him a restaurant. They started working there a week or so ago getting set up, passed the health inspector on friday and were serving friday for supper already. So they've only been open for 5 days now... met Alain (BiL's SF :p ) on sunday, did some running around for them for supplies, started working monday at 11am(worked till 9pm), and got a key to close up already. Worked today from 4pm-9pm (out of my real job at 340pm and hadn't even gotten out of my car and he was asking my to start pouring coffee).
The real fun? Alain left at 530. So I was the only person running the entire place.... weeeeee..... I hadn't worked in a kitchen for 4yrs, never mind the fact that it was only my 2nd shift.

I've been on days in the warranty dept for 3-4 weeks, passed my 3 month review with all 4/5... so I should get a raise out of them... Asked the boss last week if I could stay on days and was told he had a few things to look at (2 stations going for 8hrs or 1 1/2 working for 16hrs is his main point of contention). So I'm on days until the boss boots me back to nights.

So for now my days are 0730-1530 in the warranty dept, and 1600-2100 cooking (for $9/hr, 50% of tips, and a small meal for free). Gotta love 14hr days. I just know though that the restaurant paycheck is gonna be for toys, such as replacing my laptop this winter :D

Congrats on your good review, vampyrewolf!

Sounds like your restaurant job is a good 2nd gig. I didn't know cooks could get tips too, so that's a pretty good deal!

If I go back to nights it'll get interesting... he just hired a cook today with 20yrs experience... to start bright and early and to work till lunch rush dies down (aka when I show up at 4pm).

Now, if I'm working 1530-0000, I'll be in from 1000 or 1100 till 1500hrs... So we're gonna have 2 cooks in a small kitchen if I'm on nights. Could get interesting.

At least while I'm on days it's a decent 2nd job.

Ugh...

well, getting officially transfered to days on monday, since the boss got the request 2 weeks ago and hasn't done anything either way on it yet.

Been on days for a month now, working 0730-1530ish... and this is week 2 of working till 2100hrs at the restaurant. The experienced chef decided to stay with her old job.... They've got a full time cook now from 11am-8pm (1st year apprentice chef), so who ever else shows up gets to work the front unless he gets slammed.

Today was fun... sitting there from 9am-4pm listening to common knowledge, food safety course. The test is 50 questions, 5 bonus, and they give you an hour for it... I took about 10-15min flat. If I haven't killed myself in 13yrs of cooking, I'm doing something right.

Tomorrow will be dependant on me having OT at my job again (2hrs OT both monday and tuesday), but should be another fun 0730-2100 work day...

payday for my real job is in about 30min, so when the bank opens in 10hrs I'll have that in... and then I get paid for the restaurant friday (after this it'll be 15th and 31st). Might do my laptop upgrade soon... see what my 3 month raise looks like.
