View Full Version : Just put a Boye dent in my Endura.

I thought since I have an Endura with a broken tip (early one) I'd experiment a little with it. First off let me express... ANYONE especially the young ones trying this please use EXTREME caution when grinding or machining knives. I would prefer no one try this who is not experienced!! I took a "foredom" grinder (rotary file) with a 36 grit sanding roll and put a Boye dent in my Endura FRN. You must not get it to hot, this can "work harden" the surface and make it brittle. Not that that is critical in that area but it's a good habit to get into. You never want to get something especially an edge, that hot, it will lose its "temper" (that doesn't mean it will get mad!) You could probably use a Dremel tool, but you might need some horsepower. The other reason to keep it cool is you don't want to melt the FRN. You need a steady hand, so be careful it doesn't take off on you and scratch your knife where you don't want it to. If your knives are "collectables" I would not recommend this, use your best judgement. You can tape some sort of protection over your knife so you don't accidently grind something you don't want to. Again I did this to experiment with a knife I deemed useless. I have over 20 years of grinding-machining-fabricating experience so BE CAREFUL!!!
So how did it turn out ?

yog,
It turned out nice, I guess I was so worried about some kid injuring himself and feel I was to blame! I'm thinking of doing same to my S/S Police and Native FRN and newer model Endura FRN

Yea right when I tried it with my brand new dremel I got a chunk taking out my finger but it's cool now...I'm just waiting for the hanging flesh to die and the blood to clot before I remove the loose flesh
Just Kidding
Glad to hear it turned out cool, but I personally don't care if a Spydie has it or not

Boye dents have no real meaning to me, so I don't care if a knife has it or not. However, I'm glad yours turned out right!
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.
