EDC decisions are a fun problem to deal with. Unless you are living in a war zone, or lurking back alleys of tough cities afterhours, the choices for Spyderco EDC's can be perplexing (War Zone carry knifes are the S-Blade defensives and MBC designs). There are so many models you could comfortably carry. I am following this logic for the moment:
1) Waist Band Carry-Any of the Stainless or Metallic handled models.I like the SS Calypso Jr, NativeII & Mouse. Why? These metal knives are typically thin, and slip easily across clothing and the main reason-They soak up body heat tucked in the waist area and assume your core body temperature. When drawn, they just feel so warm and not like "cold Steel". The mouse if perfect for IWB carry due to size alone and utility.
Pocket Carry -Any model with a thick cross section, grippy type scale materials and having a bigger blade than the IWB carry items above. Tacticals fit this catagory, and I like the Starmate, Military, Temperance and even the Vieles here.
3) Belt Sheath-I always have a sheath on my belt. Even with dress slacks. I have found the size small Gerber(Blackie Collins Designed)black Nylon/Velcro sheaths are perfect for tucking away a Native. I carry a Native G10 Inlay and the sheath protects the inlay from abuse. So use a sheath for those special models you want to protect and show-off once in a while, or to hide any 3 inch blade model nicely.
If you Hunt or Clean big fish, don't over look the Moran Fix Blades for the belt. Not for office parties though.
4) Key Chain- LadyBugs of course; PE is mo better for intricate mini-cutting chores
5) Neck Carry- Mini-Police until the 2002 Sal/Perrin neck knifes are purveyed...
6)PFD(Personal Flotation Device)- Rescue in Orange. Great security blanket for all water sports. Snap-it models a close second, perhaps bettewr for climbers and hikers.
7) Boot Knife-Shabira, Zowada, Ayoob
8) Fishing Vest- The Catcherman. Great for vest carry on fishing trips in the newer steel. My older AT-55 Catherman blade rusted badly around Salt Water in no time. arrggg..
Just my opinions here. Anyone else agree or have sounder logic?
