I just received an Executive that I picked up from ebay. The reason I purchaed it was the picture showed an exposed pivot pin. After receiving it today it is SS since the only other time I have seen exposed pins were TI. It also looks factory. I wasn't sure if it may have been a repair or not.
Has anyone else seen(or have) an executive with an exposed pivot pin? If so, any idea how many, how early or late a version it is? All those types of questions.
I checked those sites that had executive pictures and they don't show exposed pins.
For now I'm going to try and polish up the scales and maybe send it home for a sharpening if I can't get it right.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris
P.S. I also don't have any pics yet. If you want to see the one from the bay you'll can search completed auctions "spyderco 2.25". I don't have the item number here at work either.

Chris:
I'm guessing that this would be the animal. I was watching it pretty closely too but decided not to bid:

Not quite sure what you mean by "exposed pin" except that maybe the circle of the pivot pin can been seen. However it appears to be flush with the surface of the scales. I have several early CoPilots where the circle of the pin can be seen. I think most SS handled Spydeco knives have pins that go clear through the handles, but the reason that most people don't notice them is that they are brushed just like the surrounding steel and basically "disappear" to the untrained eye.

I have a few Spydercos where one or more of the pins are visible like that. Think that attempts to refinish the handles tend to make the pins more visible too.
I can even see the pivot pins on a couple of my bolster & scales Kiwis in certain lights. Nowhere near the contrast shown on that Executive, but still easy to spot.

Thanks guys. I have very few SS spydies. I didn't think that the pin went through the scale. I took a good look at my worker and I could see the outline. Spyderco does a very good job at making look like it's not there.

Nice catch Chris! - Still makes me feel stupid that the sold the PE Executive that I got some years ago on the German Ebay. Got it for less then EUR 30 ... sold it for about the same... why o why ...
Take care,
Ted
