I think most would agree that hands on training in the company of a qualified instructor is best, but which are the "must have" videos for training with the blade?

I'd like this thread to be a handy reference for people new to MBC training.

Bram and Mr. Janich, feel free to include your own titles as well. (Bram, nothing by &quot; The Cuda&quot; or &quot;Dr. Hard&quot;, OK?) <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Dear SKS:

Thanks for your post and the invitation to include my own materials. Although some might consider such mention a bit self-serving, please bear in mind that before (and after) I produced my own stuff, I also spent hundreds of dollars buying other instructors' videos. As such, I know what it's like to be burned as well as anyone.

With that said, here's my list of must-have videos. Bear in mind that I have not seen every video out there, so this is not intended to be all-inclusive. I'm sure there are other good ones that I just haven't seen yet.

&quot;Fighting Folders,&quot; with Michael Janich (Paladin Press)
&quot;Advanced Fighting Folders,&quot; with Michael Janich (Paladin Press)
&quot;Drawpoint, Volumes 1-3,&quot; with James Keating (COMTECH)
&quot;Legacy of Steel,&quot; with James Keating (Paladin Press)
&quot;Knifecraft, Volumes 1-3,&quot; with James Keating (COMTECH)
&quot;Connecting the Systems COMTECH/Natural Spirit Intensive Knife,&quot; with Kelly Worden and James Keating (Paladin Press)
For Gunting fans, Bram Frank's three-volume Gunting series (Videoquest)and his &quot;Leading Edge&quot; video set (Paladin Press)
&quot; The Reality of Edged Weapons,&quot; with Joe Maffei (Paladin Press)

I would consider these &quot;must viewing&quot; to get a good overall idea of the various flavors of blade craft. From these, you can branch out to become more topic specific if you like.

I hope this helps.

Stay safe,

mike j

Gee Steve..no DR.Hard nor Cuda...no PGreedy?OH gads..what do I recommend now..??????

Thanks Mike!! As always the consumate gentleman..
Mike's tapes are freaking wonderful..filled with great goodies of info..all useful stuff...plus he the chief instructor @ MBC..hmmm must be because of the tapes!ROFL!
Jims n Kelly's tapes are like industry standard...where would one be without them..

Theres some point that MBC diverges from standard use of knife..
We are held to a higher standard of conduct so what was acceptable for example to Professor Presas's grandfather as an OK response in the Phlilppines is not OK for us..
With that in mind it limits the tapes..
JIm is very big on teling knife guys that the law and reprecussions from usage vary and can come back to haunt us..Mike and Kelly are big on that too..
As you've heard from me many times Mr Steve...

All the knife tapes can be viewed as good material but the ones Mike has mentioned are definately at the top..

Burton, Ron, Gracie and a few others count in there as well...
have a great day!!!

Bram
