:spyder: :spyder: Dontknow, if its the same with you folks but there are constant choices going through my head on which Spydie is going to be next on my list. I will make a choice on a specific model, but my mind will sort of changed by the next morning already. Anyway im resting my head on the Caly3 by December, but its quite pricey. I can buy 2 Delicas for the price of one Caly3 or 2 Native3s to one Caly3. I know the Caly3 is realy beautiful but its also got the same bladesteel as the D4s and Native3s. i would like to expand my collection even furthermore ,:spyder: because i only have 7 SPYDIES so far,and thats also the reason why the choice is so tough.:spyder:  :spyder:

This is a hard one. Making the move to a higher level of prices. There's not much that more expensive knives can do over the cheaper lines when it comes down to it. The premium is for added comfort, aesthetics and emotional reasons. Keep in mind that the Delica is expensive compared to the Byrds and other cheaper knives. The Byrds can keep up with the Delica. And yet you voted to go higher end than the Byrds. Only one person can answer this: Was it worth it for you to go with a Delica over two Byrds?

If you have time, then I'd suggest you go with the Natives or the Delicas before "upgrading" later to the Caly3.
Having said that I do not regret for 1 minute having gotten my new G10 Caly 3 instead of buying a couple of FG Delicas which I have been eyeing off. ...... BUT the thing is..... I still want those FG Delicas and will also be getting them in the next couple of months :)

I was faced with the same decision when I first got into quality folders. I had to jump from the Endura/Delica & Griptilians to the $100 range. I now mainly look at the $100 range, it's worth it to me.
Hey, most of us would get along just fine for at least the majority of our cutting requirements with a SAK. And before Spyderco started using fantabulous materials, they made Enduras and Delicas out of AUS-6 that people have used for years of hard work.
So I try not to fool myself. I just bought my last $100 knife, not because I needed it's superior performance over what I had at that moment, but because it put one of these on my face-->:D

That truely is the hard choice. But also when you think about it, what can you do with three natives that you can't do with one caly? Are you going to carry/use all three at the same time? Would you use the knife hard enough to require two backups?
I guess I may be slightly biased, but I'm not a fan of the delica of any generation, and the native is great, but limited.
Don't forget, there are quite a few other spydies that would be cheaper or seemingly more substantial for the price. What spydies do you currently own?

D4 & Caly has same blade steel yes, but the grind is different. A full flat grind (Caly)is best for my needs in that it slices so well, lots of people who carry this size knife prefer the FF grind.
With my first FF blade I was sold. I even FF ground one of my D4's.
Good luck deciding!

If there is anything I learned about buying things I don't need, its this: get what you want. You want a caly 3, so get one. If you end up getting other knives instead, you will still want to get the caly 3 and end up spending more money in the long run.
Of course, if you can handle the knives, that is ideal. However, I'm talking about internet buying.
Dig back enough in the archives and you may find my post about a Busse Argonne Assault...evidence that I follow my own advice :D
EDIT: Just some more cents: I think the decision would be a lot harder if you wanted both but could only get one.

Don't worry, MW, a Spyderhead is always allowed to change her/his mind!;)
I go thru the same thing as you described; I might be fascinated by a certain Spyder for several weeks only to discover another great one...so I keep a running list of Spyders I want to get, and pick from there...but for the most fun, I like to go with the Spyder that catches my fancy at the moment! (Unless it's like a $700 Gunting on ebay, at which point common sense and my wallet's dollars and cents kick in to say "NO WAY!!")

I know what it's like having to make a tough choice when it comes to Spydies. There have been times when I have had to decide hmmm pay my cell phone bill this month or get that Mini Manix that I have been wanting. Guess what... there is now a Mini Manix in my collection. I'm sure which ever way you choose you will end up happy. Good luck.

I would save up and get what you really want. I think with 7 spyders now you can hold off for a little bit.
Also you can get knives cheaper if you dont mind used on other forums.

I think that bladesteel is extremly important, but this is not the only factor, which determine quality and use of the knife. Native, Dodo, and Lil T have S30V, but they are quite different. You need to determine what is the price range you can comfortably live with?
