Remember the proto handle I was playing with in the Monocoque thread? Well, a friend who co-owns a composites molding firm took a liking to the concept and asked me to send it to him for show and tell for his partner and to get a feel for the task of molding handles over knive blanks. So I mailed it up to him and he showed it around and it apparently got great raves with his shop's staff. This handle was on a Stiff Kiss blank.
Then this past weekend, my buddy is flying to another city on Biz and wanted to show the proto to a guy who can digitize the shape. He was was traveling with his young family. He put the proto-knife in his checked baggage-no prob. However, upon returning to Nor Cal, he asked his wife, at the last minute, to put the knife into the baby's diaper bag and they attempted to carry it on the plane. What were they thinking? ooops!!! Busted at the X-Ray machine and a giant hullabaloo ensued. The X-Ray op was estatic and paraded the knife around in front of the crowd saying "see!!-Look what I found..look what this guy was trying to take aboard the plane!" Then miraculously, my buddy managed to explain the tanto and his motives and was actually allowed to check the diaper bag and the proto-knife as baggage one more time! He was lucky he did not get arrested(and loose my knife). To top off this fiasco, when he went to get his baggage, he forgot that he had checked the diaper bag and failed to pick it up. He left it there!! So last I heard, from him, he was planning a call to the airport authority to have them hold the "diaper bag with the knife" for him until he returned for it. Gheeez Louise
