View Full Version : SpyderKris?
Sal,
Has Spyderco ever considered making a Spydie with a Kris-like blade? Sharp on one side, dull on the other? I dunno, just an idea I had while attempting to read something not related with knives at all...
That would be an interesting knife...

Aren't all knives sharp on one side and dull on the other, or am I just completely missing the concept?

LOL
Krazie,
You are completely right, but I have handled Kris knives/daggers that are sharp on both sides. I was just referring to a pocket/folding style with Kris blade which of course would have to have a dull side. Excuse the misunderstanding, LOL!

Some people probably don't know what a kris is. It is a dagger with a wavy blade. I think south american and had something to do with snake god worship.
As far as i know, a kris is a south east asian blade which has existed at least since the 1600s. In Malaysia, it is mainly worn by royalty more for its symbolic value than for function. However, some martial arts like pencak silat use it as well. A spyder kris would be really really cool!!!

I think that, this idea is a good idea. That there is a spyderco knife with a kris blade.
That would be something i would buy!
Well, I am not sure about its origin, but it may be Asian, yes. Someone in the forum must know this much better than I do. Kris daggers are very cool-looking blades, I am pretty sure a SpyderKris would look absolutely stunning. Taking into consideration that other "historically significant" shapes have been used in their designs, like the Shabaria and the Tanto, a Kris would be an excellent addition.
Here's a link I just found about Kris Daggers:

Kris blades are very interesting the have there own significant shape that has been in use for centure's. Having a Spyderkris would be one of the best knives that Spyderco would have ever made. Sal, i really hope that you will take in consideration of maybe making this knife and i would be pretty sure that there would be alot of costomers like me!

Speaking of the famous Kris-blade, I think Benchmade makes one of their Bali-Song's with that design. I know, it's a Benchmade and not Spyderco, but like Kahz stated: they do look neat.
I think a Spyderco with a Kris-style blade would be awesome. Add a pink handle......perfect.
