- about Mr. Janich's 'fighting folders and 'advanced fighting folder' video tapes, I'll give a brief impression from my initial viewing of them.

First off, I have a foundational MBC training before seeing these tapes, so I will not go into the comparatives of 'theirs' and 'ours' (at least for now) and I'm not one to view many tapes, much less speak about them, so bear with me.

I was impressed how clean it was produced and the high quality of the filming, editing and sequencing as a whole. Mike is very clear and easy to understand throughout the entire tape set. He talks through his motions and actions while doing them, which makes absorbing what is going on, easier in less time, especially for those with no prior training. I know this may seem standard for instructional videos, but the few tapes I've seen many times had to be really examined to understand what went on there after the series of actions occured.

As for content, I found the first(fighting folders) tape had interesting insight into the tactical folders genre(which many of the forumites may already be familiar with). And the last tape(advanced fighting folders) had alot of good material regardless of training background on disadvantaged positions and how to cover/position to make a path to your weapon when caught off guard, something not well covered in many curriculums. If the specific counters Mike covers don't cut it with you, it could still give you something to think about for integrating into your own program(if you have one).

I feel if you don't have 'any' previous training and/or have no personl intruction available in a local area, these tapes could educate you on many fundamentals quickly in a clean, concise fashion. If you already are in a solid training curriculum, the set may be 'supplemental'(as Mike suggests in the final video) to one's program, if not technique-wise, at least conceptually.

BTW, seeing how Mr. Janich opened his balisong in the tape, I can see why he'd be enthusiastic about a spyderbali.

take care,

Ken

Dear Ken:

Thanks for taking the time to post your impressions of the videos. I really appreciate your insights and your objectivity. Although you have trained extensively in several different arts, you maintain a very open-minded view of new material. That is truly commendable and often a rare trait among seasoned martial artists. Thank you.

I sincerely hope you like the tapes and that you find them a worthwhile addition to your personal training program.

Stay safe,
