I think it was Capt Carl that said he wanted to see a folder Street Beat. Gotta agree with that 100%. I was just playing with some folders thinking how comfortable they were and wondered how they might be as a fixed blade. Fixed Military anyone? Which ones would you be interested in converting into a fixed or folder?

I think the Dayhiker would make a great folder. I'd say the Woodlander, but with a blade that wide six inches might be a bit much. Five inches would be about right.
Give it a BB Lock or integral Compression lock and it should make a good outdoors pocket knife.

Folders turned Fixed?
First would be the Tazman Salt. I'd love to have an H-1 hawkbill in fixed blade form.
Second would be the Mini Manix, that thing would make a really neat little fixed blade.

The Delica, Endura and Native seem like they would handle the folder --> fixed blade transition well ...especially the Native with it's spear-like shape. Making the Native into a fixed blade would solve the problem that some of us have posted about concerning its small Spyder hole size and the hole's position, which make it difficult to open the knife at times. Having a fixed blade Native would be so cool!:D

Thinking the Manix deserves a fixed blade version.

I know it was just disco'd, but I would really like to see an FB Kris. Just to see what Ed could come up with.

Outside of food prep, don't really have much need for FBs anymore, and if I ever were to hunt again my superstitious side would proabably win and I'd wind up carrying the same Buck Caper I always did. On top of that, I think that the same design parameters that make for a superb folder would amost always result in a third rate FB, and visa-versa. So can't say I'd be much interested in FB versions of any Spyderco folder. Moran Drop Point is the only Spyderco FB I think might stand a chance of working as a folder, and even there, you'd have to either ruin the lines by adding a hump, or use a non-traditional (for Spyderco) opening device.

As for FB Military/Manix - think the Temperance FB pretty much fills that role.

I agree that for the most part, to make a fixed blade based on a folder design might create a "worst of both worlds" type of situation. But there are some pretty good transitions, like the Ronin/Yojimbo, so in some cases I think it works out well.

I don't really have much use for fixed blades. Although something strange like a folding spot or swick would be really cool.

Truthfully the fixed blade that I want to see as a folder the most is chad's MPT. If the blade was a little stubbier, I think it would make a great little hard use folder.

I think the Native would be a really neat fixed blade, too. It would be a nice compact fixed blade that wouldn't scare many people. I imagine it would be a tough little fixed blade.

I do wish Spyderco made a military-line(military and paramilitary) fixed blade. I wonder why Spyderco doesn't make much tactical knives?

I think, and mentioned it once long ago, that the Endura would make a great fixed blade.

I only like the fixed blades for hunting or fishing. Therefore, my vote goes to the Catcherman (Salt) and an Ocelot. I think they would be perfect in FB for these uses!!!

I don't like the native much as a folder anymore, but I still think it would make a wonderful little fixed blade.

I happened to use my Volpe for some food prep at dinner the other day and now that I see this topic I think it could be a nice kitchen knife if it was set up as a fixed blade with enough of an offset for the handle. Nice flat grind for slicing, the blade's wide enough to cut larger items easily and the cutout on the spine helps for fine tip control if needed.

Also, I think the Native blade could be the base for a very nice necker.

I think the Dodo handle, on a Leaf blade, or some sort of blade shape, other that the S. What J.B said.
